Shifting gears

Newbee here. Apparently I was in the wrong thread. 3rd gen guy told me so. Anyway my 95 only will shift into overdrive when it is warmed up. I seems to shift a t exactly the same temp everytime. Once warm no issues. Any ideas?

I'm not sure if this is right, I'm no expert, but I heard something about transmission fluid being a lot less viscous than normal lubricant, and therefore it tends to get sticky in very cold situations.

I'd try changing out the transmission fluid. If you're in a real cold climate, it might just be that way and nothing could be wrong.

Thanks Johannes I really dont think there is a problem either because as soon as it hits the same temp it will shift. With something that consistant it probably might be that way. I will change fluid though. It is snowing in Buffalo Ny right now!!!

It's supposed to be that way.
The fact that it always occurs at the same temp should be a clue.

Staying out of OD keeps the engine revving higher, which helps the engine come up to operating temp quicker, and keeps emissions lower while that is happening.


Nothing to do with tranny fluid viscosity.
