Shock Relocation

Hey guys,
In the process of getting the parts for my lift and kinda stumped when it comes to rear shocks. Ive decided that I want to get a remote resi shock such as the 5160/5165 or the 7100s. What I'm stumped on it wether or not I want to move my shock mounts to the frame and run and eye top mount instead of the stud because my factory top mount is rusting. I liked Ripcord's idea and is what I'm looking at doing but making tabs instead of cutting the stud off an adapter. What are benefits of moving the shocks to the frame versus the factory set up? Thanks!

It's all depends on what you plan on using your runner for. This is what I did to mine

I to have been interested in this topic. Is there only one place to wled the shock to the frame? How should I go about finding the best place to weld my tab
 
Troyboy did this with 35's over on UltimateYota.com. Search "long travel with 35's" and you should find it (or just scroll through the timeline - there's not a ton of activity over there). He has a detailed write up on his rear shock relocation.

I plan on doing this next week, so wheel spacers are a absolute must? I am using 5100's in the rear with superflex coils on 5 stars with 295/75/16.
I'm gunna do some searching for some flex shots.
I'd like to make it as easy as just swing the shock over and weld a big tab to the frame.
I'm just concerned as to where to mount the tab? Is there only one way to weld it?
 
wheel spacers are not a must. you can get wheels with the correct back spacing. thats what i did. I run 3.5 BS and have no clearance issues.
 
I hate to throw a wrench in this but... I run a 2.5" shock in the rear. Mounted outside of the frame. As does [MENTION=74071]Brilliant[/MENTION]
 
hmm wierd, I measured my rig at close to full flex and there was less than 2" of clearance between the frame and tire, and i have stock tires, with bigger tires 285s or 315s i would figure it would rub hardcore.

I actually made a mount for my lc tokico shock but obviously it didnt fit when I checked. the od on it is 2.625"

I also dont have wheel spacers or extended bumps though.
 
I have seen multiple threads now, where people have given this 'mod' multiple attempts due to mounts busting and reworking the shock angle.

I think I'm just gunna say f*** it and weld myself something up with the extended bilstiens 5100's, should I weld my mounts after I install new coils?
 
Sorry been at work all day guys. Its gonna be a part time wheeler but mostly used for daily driving and hammering down bumpy dirt roads. I love that king set up turbonate, I'm probably going to do something like that. Set on ordering shocks tonight so gotta make up my mind. Im going to be running super flex coils and have 5100 adjustable height up front.

OP, Ford F250 shock towers are about the cheapest eye mount brackets you can get.

Just put in my order for some bilstein 7100s with 12 inches of travel. After doing lots of reading on that other thread, that is what they were recommending. I think I'm going to do the tube mount set up as I have a bender and some 1.5 inch tubing laying around! Can't wait for them to come in.
