Haha, imagine explaining why I chose my new girlfriend to her. "Ah, I mainly thought you were a good fit because you look like you could get into my truck."

And trust me, I do what I want to my truck. My girlfriend told me not to lift my truck...look at it...
But in all honesty, the offroad world is growing on her. She likes going mudding but worries about me breaking stuff. Im trying to break her in, sort of like a glove

yeah you should never let a "girlfriend" tell you what to do with your truck, my 4runner out lasted more than a few girlfriends, lol , now if she was your wife that's a different story but a girlfriend, nah.... make her jump. :girl:

Haha, I want running boards/sliders too though. I would not buy them if she was the only one that wanted them. And we have been together for 4 years, it seems like shes the wife. Also, she paid for my Bilsteins so I can't hate on her. She treats me really good.

I would go with sliders, they are better looking and actually serve a purpose, much stronger.

As others have said, go with sliders. My Fiance didn't want me to lift my 4runner, still happened, didn't want slider, still happened. My sliders are laid flat (not by choice, but by design) and they help out with her getting in and she's 5' 1". Your girlfriend will understand and get over it eventually. It's your truck and unless she wants to pay for some new steps that aren't sliders then it's not her choice.

Also you will break the running boards or steps if you wheel, so explain to her that it is more cost effective and safe for your vehicle to have sliders.

Theres a special type of tape or something you put on those to keep from slipping when its icy outside, I'd get that done if i was you so your girlfriend doesnt slip!! But you probably already know that lol

I think you made the right choice. A set of nerf bars really isn't that much better to help you step in than a set of sliders. The factory running boards would probably be the best for that. My GF is also on the shorter side and she likes the sliders for helping her get in.

I agree, it's your truck, do what you want. If it was your wife, that's a different story. Tell her to get over it (No offense) and get something actually useful like sliders. I have white knuckle off road sliders and am happy with them. I personally never used the stock step or the sliders to enter the vehicle tho.

I hope I made the right choice..

What I plan on doing is when I get them, I want to take them down to a Line-X shop down the road. I know a guy there who will do them for $80. He is going to actually powder coat them, but will also spray the bed liner first.

Then I was going to go home, fabricate some sort of bracket (I have a body lift) and I was going to weld everything together. I am going modify the sliders a bit though. Instead of mounting them at a bigger angle to cover my truck and not sit so low, I was going to angle them outwards, then weld, to give them more of a step feature. Is this a good or bad idea?

Tack weld them up, step back and see what you think.

As far as messing up your legs, I put strips of grip tape on mine to help with the stepping on process. I scraped up the back of my leg a couple of times when I first put them on, but haven't scraped them since. Muscle memory.

Tack welding seems like a good idea, just make light welds to hold into place and then take a gander? Nicee, and Thats what I wanted to know, if the tape will mess me up, so I might just go with powder coating and scratch off the bed liner addition.

The one thing I will say against powder coating vs rattle can is that the sliders will get banged up. If you powder coat them, the only way to fix that is to tear them off and powder coat them again. With a rattle can, you can just touch up any spots whenever you want.

And if you add the tape, you could just put it on the passenger side and not have it on your side. Keep those purty legs clean.
