should I upgrade from k&n 77 series to TRD CAI?

I just installed a k&n 77 series CAI last thursday and have since found a GREAT deal on a TRD CAI.

First, it's from an 08 Tacoma so I think it will fit my 06 T4R but please correct me if i'm wrong.

Second, what are your thoughts on making this swap? Is it worth it? I was already planning on putting an AEM or AFE dry filter on my K&N (~$60) and then getting one of those "socks" for it to keep more things from getting stuck in it and keep water away from it for $30. Right there thats $90 and I can get this Tacoma TRD CAI for $150!

Anyone else make the switch from a k&n to a TRD CAI for the v6?

You won't gain any performance but you will gain quality. I'm not fond of K&N filters.

thats what I was thinking. The enclosed box would provide better all-around "performance" in that its much better than the "sock" for the exposed filter and the dry filter is better for the engine than the oil.

I also think, but could be wrong, that installing the TRD would give me less hassle with Toyota Service Care and my warranty since it's a toyota brand part and not "aftermarket".

Frankly, an intake is an intake for the most part, but yes I think the TRD is a bit higher quality. If you're looking to get rid of your k&n intake, hit me up

Just get a AFE intake with a pro dry s filter. AFE=TRD. the afe is on sale at amazon for $246 I'd jump on that if I were you. I would trade up but I getting some autometer gauges.

The debate is keep the K&N metal tubing but put an AFE filter on the end or buy a TRD setup (enclosed box with the "afe" filter). The only reason I'm considering it is the guy is parting out his taco and willing to sell for $150

97BlackAckCL: i'll let you know if the guy gets back to me. With a buyer for the k&n i'm more likely to buy this anyway. I spent $130 on the k&n a week ago so I'd sell it to you for $110+s/h. Let me know.

Yeah I'd jump on that deal. The only thing is that I'd swap out the TRD filter for a pro dry s and sell the K&N, but thats what I'd do.

the guy i got my TRD CAI from took it off his tacoma too. i noticed a big difference in performance once i put the TRD on. dont know what other guys say but I felt and noticed it.

i paid more for mine which was used so thats a deal for 150. if you can sell the K&n i'd say go for it.

the hassle come in when toyota requires the stealership install the intake since i have the extended warranty. Since its TRD it will not cause issues w/ the warranty unless installed by them. of course i didn't know this till after but kept the original just in case.

sell the k&n, & at that price, get the trd because of the sealed box, then like skyline said, get the pro dry

i think i jumped the gun, being that I found it on craigslist, someone else is headed out to buy it from the guy tonight and got to him first. If he backs out though, I'm next in line.

Either way, I think im going to go with a pro dry filter but may wait a little longer and do it at least before my k&n needs re-oiling. Might jump on some HIDs soon...
