Should the 4Runner give some kind of warning if you leave the headlights on?

I bought a new '14 Trail and I think I remember when I first bought it, a beeping noise would sound if I opened the door with the headlights on. Now, if I leave the lights on no beep or sound is made when I open the door or even if I completely turn the car off and lock the doors with the lights on. Thanks.

They go off automagic after the preset time, I believe default is 30 seconds.

Or just hit your door lock button twice and it shuts all your lights off.

To answer your question, yes, there is no buzzer/chime that indicates they are on

Headlights

Was not sure, had to go out and check my old 2013.
No audible warning, visual only. 1 funny symbol on dash, 2 bright lights in front with something on the side light up and lights on in back too.
Guess it's set up for the hearing impared.
I remember they do go off automatically but I did not wait around long enough to find out.

I think some of the manufacturers call it "follow me home". Park in the driveway at night when your outside lights aren't on and the headlights stay on long enough for you to walk up to the front door.

5th gen does that too, but it gives you like 30-60 seconds after you exit the vehicle, then turns them off.

A word of caution, I've found out that if you leave the headlight switch on and accidentally dont get one of the car doors shut completely the headlights will not shut off automatically and will remain on until the door is shut or they are turned off by the switch.
