Side mirror puddle light upgrade

Sadly there is no switch option available yet so that I could combine shipping. I'll still order the new puddle lights though

Got some info from MESO last week in an email about upcoming products. Here’s a little teaser:

If I can find time to sit down with the wiring diagrams I might cook up my own puddle light switch using a custom labeled OEM look switch

CH4x4 Toyota Small Push Switch Sasquatch Lights Symbol

When I bought the Anytime camera kit I ordered the nav option but they only supplied a plain little toggle switch. So I bought this OEM look switch...

.... and modified it internally

Now the illuminated "GPS" letters turn off when I push the button...

... and that enables Nav changes without stopping the 4Runner

If anyone has already researched the puddle light interface let me know. I've searched a little but no hits yet.

Installed them today. Here is a side by side before and after.

That enhanced illumination looks great. Looking at the MESO website photo, there is a larger opening in the mirror housing for the LED array which will be facing forward to the wind. Have you noticed any additional wind noise from this at highway speeds?

Illumination/light throw is great. (See my before and after pics) I believe the idea as to why MESO is going to be introducing the light switch for these puddle lights is to be able to use them instead of installing ditch lights that are usually mounted on the left and right side of the hood along the bottom of the windshield.

No increased wind noise at all or at least anything noticeable.

Just ordered a set! Bummed about the fact that there is no switch available yet though. Wondering if they will offer a discount to anyone who ordered the lights before it was available.

Sent them an email and got the below response:

I would say it's best to get the puddle kits installed on your vehicle for now. I can't estimate when we would have the switch ready as there is still a bit of R&D to be done as well as product samples from the factory.

Bummer. Does anyone know where we can source a 3-pos switch that looks factory and fits in a standard blank? I'd be willing to takle the wiring if I could find a switch.

So, newb question. When do the lights in the mirrors turn on? When you open the door or when the interior light kick on?

Also when you hit the unlock button on your remote. Puddle lights in the mirrors stay on for several seconds after the interior lights fade off.

I replaced the OEM incandescent puddle light bulbs with Philips 194 LEDs. If I look carefully I can see that the bulbs are glowing very dimly when off. There must be a few microamps of current flowing to detect a bulb out condition.

Do the LEDs of the MESO puddle light glow when off?

Not they do not glow when off.
