silly n00b questions - sorry!

Hey guys, Ive owned my 4runner for about 4 months so far, and I love the car - the ride, the windows, and hopefully future towing ability.

I have a 99 SR5, V6, tow package, blah blah.. Now i had some questions which are most likely dumb but I couldnt find any answer..

1. fender flares/oem replacement thingy's..

Sorry to steal the picture, but those are what i am looking for along with the rear mudflaps. I went to the toyota dealership and the guy just looked dumbfounded.. Does anyone have a part # or anything I could use instead of dealing with the idiots at Toyota. I wish I could find some Limited flares, but I think that would just be too much $$.

2. Brakes

yikes, when i apply the brakes the car just shakes violently. This only happens when i gently apply the brakes, if I slam them on its not too bad. So I am taking the obvious guess is that my rotors are done. I was going to pick up autozone blank rotors (i use these with my racecar and work fine)... But what pads should i run, anything in particular if I plan on towing.

3. Towing

I plan on towing my racecar this summer to various events around the east coast. Its a honda civic ~ 2200 lbs w/o trailer, most likely using an open trailer.

Any tips/hints on stuff to look out for/upgrade when trailering with a 4runner?

thanks again guys/girls! :bigok:

As far as the towing goes, I believe the 4 is rated at 5000lbs towing capacity so you should be fine on that aspect.

I went to a local dealer to ask about flares a while ago and they had the full catalogue of accessories for the 97-02 4Runners. The flares were $$$$$!, but was told they are still available.
Check out http://www.bushwacker.com/fender.asp?make2=9&cat2=114&search=Search or also a company called Xenon. I have seen the Xenon flares on ebay a few times.

I can get you the bushwackers, and they are nice, and priced well. Feel free to email me.

Can i get "limited" style fender flares from Bushwhacker and run them on the SR5, or is that no go?

How is the fit on these things, the flare cover thingys i posted in my first post - im guessing bushwhacker sells those also - how is the fit?

Can you email me a price on those - [email protected]

THANKS!

Upgrade to a V8. While the vehice may be rated for 5000 lbs towing, it won't last long doing it often. A V6 just isn't meant for that.

Not true about the V6;my friend tows his race prepped Civic from Colorado to Phoenix and texas twice a year and has been since '99 when his '99 Runner was new and now he's got over 150k on it and it still tows fine but of course more power would be nice.

If you are going to be towing a decent amount this summer, definitely look into a transmission cooler. I have the hayden 1678. I have also heard good things about or truecool line of coolers.

Also, if you want more power for towing, then you might be interested in the TRD supercharger route, but thats a whole other can of worms. If you are interested send me a PM and I will give you a couple of good links that will give you a good idea of what would be involved.

I've heard good things about brembo blanks with PF/Hawk pads. There are a lot of good threads floating around yotatech.com regarding brakes. Another option to consider since you are towing is doing the Tundra brake upgrade.
