My '03 came with the silver trim package; grill, handles, roof rack and rear hatch garnish. Since i have had my truck for so long I was thinking about a change. I was thinking about buying or trading for the same pieces, only in black. What do you guys think?

I would personally go with black, though you already saw my pictures in the picture thread

Edit - Not sure how big of a difference it would make since you have all that gray cladding

he should blackout the cladding too.

Yeah, i am really leaning towards the black. Just have to find some good deals on the pieces or somebody local that wants to trade out.

Why don't you paint those? it's much better than spending $150 just for a tailgate garnish.

I could do that with the rear garnish and grill, but not sure how well it would hold up on the handles and rack.

I am in same predicament. Black runner, still silver trim, not sure if I want to go black or not.

I painted my silver roof rack black last spring I used Rustolem(sp?) Painters Touch. I roughed up the silver paint with some 3M pads then I primed then painted I also painted the crossbars as well. It has held up well over almost a year. I have been debating doing my grill this year.

One of my neighbors has an all silver 4th gen with a black rack. I might see if they want to trade....lol

I have a black truck. I painted my end caps black, but left the roof rack grey. I think it looks alright. I REALLY want to paint the center parts of the front & rear bumpers where it's grey. That bugs the hell out of me. Anyway, I'll post a pic as soon as I can snap some.

Got the grill, handles and rear hatch piece all pulled, sanded, cleaned and primed today. Will shoot them in the morning, clear in the afternoon and polish tomorrow night.....can't wait! Black Urban Runner rack will be here Monday. Step tube by the end of the week....

I had thought about the Plasti-Dip, but knew i wouldn't like the matte black against the gloss of my paint. I also wouldn't think it would hold up to use on the door handles. I knew i was going to like it so i started on the project yesterday. I took off my grill, handles and rear hatch piece. Got the grill masked off and all the pieces sanded and/or scuffed. Then shot each with a couple coats of primer, sanded pieces that needed it again, then shot the 3 coats of paint, then 3 or four coats of clear on each. I got one handle wet sanded, polished sealed and mounted......turned out better than i expected. I was going to do the rest of the handles tonight, but wanted to see one of the bigger pieces so i wet sanded, polished and sealed the rear hatch piece, then mounted.....looks great! Will be wrapping it all up tomorrow. Will post pics after i get it all finished and the truck washed.

Huge thanks to Trevloc for the threads on the removal of the pieces......

Good luck MOMO! YOU are my test pilot.
We have almost identical 4runners and I too have been less then complacent about our silver trim accents.

It has turned out awesome! I was just about to wash it up and take some pics. It will be later on before i can post them....stay tuned.
