Sirius Satellite installed 2010 Trail. No more monthly fees.. yeah

I searched a while back and couldn't get any real info on what items i needed to complete this. Quite a few audio stores told me that i would not be able to install sirius with the 4runner with NAV. Two different Toyota dealers gave me contradictory information. Most people just assume that xm and sirius are the same company. The answer to that is yes and no. I must have asked at least 7 toyota salesmen and they all said "You already have sirius, what are you talking about?"
Yes, Sirius can be installed.
Yes, you can do it yourself.

So for those looking to install Sirius you need:
ISTY11 fron isimple gateway
ISSR11 cable from gateway to SCC1
SCC1 sirius adapter / antenna
Total cost of the materials was 85.00, much better that the 400+ Toyota was telling me.


There are also other options i have found to be successful.
ISTY571 from isimple also works.
SL2S from VAIS Industries
TOY-SC1 (discontinued)
All three of these can be used instead of the ISTY11. I used that because of the price from ebay.

Everything works. No issues.
I have the lifetime suscription and really didn't want to pay a monthly fee.

What does a "lifetime subscription" service cost with Sirius?

Sirius offered it a few years ago for 499 or 399 with coupon. I don't think its still available. I've had it about 7 years or so now. It was nothing against XM, it was the $$ factor.

It is one company but... sirius and xm use separate hardware...
Only some the the channels are on both platforms.
You can use sirius hardware on xm and visa versa.
So thats why it's not the same company.
XMsirius is more of a parent company. That's one way to look at it.

Yes, the ISTY11 will work. Yes, you would have to get the monthly fee. I would recommend getting a year or more and seeing if they will throw in a few months free.

They still keep their billing and hardware separate. I have an XM account on my T4R and a Sirius account for a unit I bought to switch between my Prius and police cruiser.

I tried to combine the 2 accounts but they told me it couldn't be done.

I could not transfer the account to my Toyota XM radio because after many years, merged since 2008, they still cannot figure out how to manage accounts. I still have my Sirius add on in the Xterra and paid $77 for the year on my 4R. It's a crock they cant figure it out.

And what about all those new channels they are promoting. Can the Toyota radio receive them?

I have the lifetime subscription as well, I got mine for $399 and its transferrable for up to 3 receivers. For this reason I have the car kit and just take my receiver out and plug it in to whichever vehicle I'm driving.

I thought of add a car kit with a separate receiver, but i just kept looking on ebay for the parts i needed and it turned out it was cheaper. (for the receiver i wanted anyway). Plus the added benefit of not having to hide or remove anything is what also sold me.

SiriusXM does have a few messed up policies for sure. It's true that they "supposedly" can't transfer from sirius to xm(factory toyota). What do you like better xm or sirius? Crazy that only some satellite programs are on both and other channels are separate.

They do have packages that allow you to pick channels from both. I really wanted Stern so I cancelled my free trail when I bought the truck and signed up for it. I did have another Sirius account despite pleading with "Bobby" in India they could not transfer.

No they can't just transfer onto the 4runner, unless you install an adapter and sirius hardware. Super easy. Just remember to write down your esn number before installing it.... SXM needs it to activate a suscription.
No pause/rewind or alerts.
