Skid Plate has arrived: pictures at the end of the day

i hope you dont think this will give you protection from rocks etc. I think its great for looks and the occasional bug.

It's the factory Toyota one. Mostly for looks and deflecting squirrel guts.

So here is the write up:

You will need a socket wrench with 17mm, 12mm, 13mm sockets

a 15mm and 13mm combination wrench

helping hand for the last part. Since i grew up in a nuclear waste facility I have 3 hands anyway.

Next step is to construct the rivnut by placing the oversize nut and M8 x 45mm and hand tighten. I tightened it just a little bit more with the socket and 15 mm wrench until i got a pretty good amount of resistance.

Next place the rivnut in the upper hole on the frame above the tow hook on the outer part of it as shown. There is a threaded bolt and just a regular hole.

Next tighten with the wrench and socket wrench until the rivnut is flush against the frame and won't wiggle anymore. This means it has fully opened up in the frame. Then just loosen the bolt and remove.

Place the m8 bolt and oversize nut into the other rivnut and repeat on other side

The next thing to go on is the brackets. This will require the m8 bolt and m12 x 1.25 x 25mm bolt.

This will then be placed onto the frame where you installed the rivnut as shown

Once both brackets are on. Have someone lift the skid plate up to the bracket, or do it yourself but lightly screwing the bolts in each side and tightening.

Adjust to the proper height and how far forward and back it is then tighten all the bolts on the bracket and skid plate to hold in place. There ya go, the Toyota skid plate is now ready to protect your 4Runner against against evil curbs or whatever else your lady, wife, girlfriend might run into.
