Slider spacing

I am getting ready to weld on my Stubbs HD-SKO sliders tomorrow morning and was wondering what spacing you all put between the slider and the pinch weld? I have read on a few posts at yota-tech that they are going between 1/4" and 1/2". To me it seems like this little of a spacing will allow the sliders to flex into the body. What have yall used?

About the thickness of a finger is what I use for most vehicles. Just make sure to use the same finger. A little more if it has a body lift.

mine are about 5/8ths to an 1" in gap but mine are bolt on and the BL is what created that gap. If I could I'd close it to about 1/2 which sounds about right

I plan on gettin a set of the same at the end of next month and was thinking the about the same issue. Not sure how much flex they have but make sure you leave enuff room to open your door under load.
Have you painted em yet, what your plan? - I figured I would paint before intsall and just leave the part that gets welded unpainted till finished. I don't want a bunch of over spray on the rig.

Ill post some pics this afternoon. I used rust-o-leum semi gloss black to match my bumper. Iv'e used the hammered on sliders in past and that works well, its more difficult to tell where new layers of paint have been added but I figure its not a big issue. I thought about powder coating them but I feel like I will simply be scraping my money off so an annual $5 can of touch up paint should do the job. I did paint them prior to welding them on, touching up afterwards. Painting them after they are on seems like more of a headache.

I went with about 1 inch. This was the closest I could manage with my body lift. Iv'e got my last final exam tomorrow and Ill post those pictures afterwards. Thanks for yall's help.
