Slider Suggestions

Those RSG sliders look like they might provide a wider step surface, I think I'll go with them. I really want to replace the stupid Predator steps that came with my 4Runner.

I read that when they did the Hi-Lift jack test on the other brand, the sliders flexed enough to where the rear door wouldn't open without hitting the slider. My sliders don't flex in the slightest.

My experience was a bit different, I got the Cali with plates and bump outs because I like the idea of the mount brackets wrapping under the frame, just seems stronger to me. Mine do flex a little when jacking though, not enough to hurt anything maybe 1/4-3/8". The front bracket on the left side was off about 1/8" so I had to slot one of the holes, but I still love em and got a great price last summer.

Yeah I forgot about that aspect; I love how they wrap the frame.

I've heard of a few others needing to wobble out one of the holes, but that's a fairly easy fix and non uncommon for hand-built metal work

Thank you all for your replies. I ended up caving and finally purchasing some sliders (buy once, cry once as they say). I went with RCI flats powder coated with top plates because after shipping, it was the best price compared to the top brands. Their standard material is DOM steel and it was still cheaper after shipping vs other brands with HREW. I figure you really can’t go wrong with any brand it mostly depends on what sales are running and what they offer!

i have the RCI sliders and can say they work great and have held up well after 2 years of rocks along with the road salt Kentucky loves to put down the second someone mentions fluffy white stuff falling from the sky.

Nice to hear about the salt! I’m in an area that responds similarly to snow.

How do they work as a step? Do they stick out enough?

Yea the RSG’s look really nice and seem to stick out pretty far. They’re a favorite on this forum for sure.

I was really leaning towards RSG but RCI was a couple hundred dollars cheaper. RCI also only offers DOM steel where as RSG offers weaker HREW as well as DOM and the HREW was still much more expensive after shipping compared to RCI.

No one has mentioned PakRax sliders yet. These are a great quality and priced very well. RCI are probably one of the best.

Metaltech makes killer stuff. I've been running the OPOR Sliders for 10+ years and they're holding up great. They have a heavier duty and lighter duty model. Not the cheapest but definitely one of the best.

they stick out far enough that older relatives can use them to get in and out. the dog is also happy to use them to step in and jump out. I have used the kick outs to help pivot around trees.

That’s exactly what I’m looking for. Need them to not only function as a good slider but also access the roof rack from anywhere on the truck. Especially once my cargo box is up there which I need a little more height to reach inside. My nfab nerf bars did not provide enough step height.

There's a thread on this forum with a bunch of info on this.... but-

I LOVE my sliders from Cali Raised LED. They are made in Fort Worth TX using DOM tubing. They have an OEM appearance to them. The are 100% stout; I can lift the whole vehicle using a Hi-Lift jack, jacking from the middle of the slider.

The powder coat finish is very durable too. I have the angled sliders and still use them as a step with a size 12 shoe. My 8 and 11 year old, as well as my wife all use them as a step. The flat units would probably work even better as a step, but I like the look of the angle.
