Slight Leak After Roof Rack Install

Hello everyone,

I recently purchased a BajaRack brand roof rack for my 5th Gen. T4R. It is designed to install into the existing roof rail mounting holes. Today I noticed a little bit of water running down the interior side of the glass while washing the vehicle.

FYI...I did apply silicone, as recommended. Has anyone else run into a similar issue? How can I remedy this?

you'll have to take off the rack and reapply new silicone.

i suggest using permatex's "the right stuff".

also, did you remember to apply silicone around the bolt holes but also inside the bolt holes as well?

Either you did not apply the silicone all the way around or you need to use a slight bit more.

Front drivers side pillar? I've had a leak too after replacing my rack on top. Actually took into the dealer as "warranty" and they said it looked fine. Thinking the original bolts had a sealant on them, not just lock-tite.

same thing for me, I contacted BajaRack and they sent me new mounts. I haven't had a chance to install them or look at them to see if they are any different.

I plan to silicone the $h!t out of it.

Thanks, I did run the silicone down the holes. What are white bolt tubes? Are the tubes down in the holes?

They are the Receptacles for the bolts. If you look where you screwed the bolts in, the "tubes" are white.

Thanks, Thought so. I guess I didn't add enough silicone. I will remove the rack and try again.

Isn't that for gaskets? Will I be able to remove bolts, rack without damaging the white bolt tubes?

Okay.... Took off the rack, added copious amounts of silicone and new stainless steel washers. It seems BajaRack provided stainless steel bolts, but standard washers. I will give it a water test in the morning.

Curios as well, I mounted my full length rack on Saturday. I don't see any problems but keeping an eye out. I live in South Florida, we get rain every day during the summer.

PS: anyone have pictures of how much silicon is a good amount..?

I was so worried about leaking during my Gobi install, I went through almost an entire tube of RTV Silicon Sealant. I think the trick, as some have mentioned, is putting silicon around the bolt sleeve (that little white plastic tube) as well as down in the hole. Thankfully, I did both and haven't had a single leak there.

Totally unrelated but sharing a leak story....Unfortunately, I HAVE run into a leak from the back end but it's unrelated to the roof rack install. I cut into one of the weather boots at the top of rear lift door frame to run my CB antenna wire and I didn't realize how much it would leave. When the rear door is closed, the gap between the body & door allows water to go right in there. I've used some silicon sealant tape to help repair the boot but it's not 100%. Leaks a little when it goes through a heavy downpour.
