Here you can see where I started cutting away the factory crossmember leaving the mounting plate for the tank in place so I can take measurements of the bolt hole locations. Then I'll hack the rest of it off, fab a new mount and put the tank back on. I've yet to figure out how I'm gonna do it but I'll worry about that when the time comes.
I finally found some time to get out in the shop and put in some work on my rig. I got my fuel tank bracket figured out and finished up the t-case crossmember. Put the the tank back in and threw on the new drivelines. All that's left is to extend all the wiring to the transfer case, cut the hole between the seats for the twin sticks then put the interior back together. Almost there!!!
Well I was able to get the crawl box shifter bent, cut, extended and welded to the proper angle I needed. All that's left is some tweaking to the twin sticks and put the interior back together then I'll finally be able to wheel this pig. Unfortunately it'll have to wait since I'm leaving Friday for Cali and won't be back till the 30th. Stay tuned...
Got the twin sticks done today. Had to do some serious tweaking to get them up through the rear cup holder but they shift smooth without any binding issues. All that's left is to top off all the fluids, and finish some wiring. Should be testing out the crawl box tomorrow or Monday.
So a coworker of mine picked up a parts truck from a friend of his to get his '88 2wd pickup put back together. Well, in the bed of it was a solid axle out of an '84/85. He had no use for it so he offered it to me for $200. At first I said no cuz it was missing the manual hubs (really the only parts worth anything on a stock axle besides diff and the housing). Anyway, he then said he'd take $100 for it so I said what the hell and scored it. Long story short...I took it home and started tearing it down tonight and found these...
