I find that if I want to pass someone, I just pull the lever over to "sport" mode and keep the throttle in the same position. The resulting downshift will usually get the job done with little drama. That's my .02.....

same here. i reflexively shift into S now.

I think some of you guys are having the opposite problem I am having. I came from low torque, high hp 4 bangers with stick shifts or straight 6 bimmer motors. That this thing has a red-line around where I would launch my Miata from a traffic light. I tool around in this thing under 2000 rpm's at 70 on the long low flat highway's of GA, I avg around 23-24mpg doing so. I have constantly been confused by the opinion of so many here that losing the V8 options was a loss. The six has better numbers across the board and is lighter. Lightness is king. This isn't a diesel and it will need to be occasionally pushed past 2800 rpms. I say go get in a field, and just stomp on the accelerator until you get used to the way 5800 rpms sound. The baja bug loves that, I can't wait to see what 4800 lbs of Toy thinks about it.

The A122 looks nice Mike. That is the kind of unit I am looking for. I'm interested in your thoughts on yours.

Brock I did the set up on one of the Chalet's this weekend. To get the roof and sides up takes less than a minute. The leveling jacks would probably take a bit longer but I'm assuming if it's attached to the truck the jacks aren't necessary.

Hope I haven't stepped on any toes here asking about these trailers on the 4Runner forum. If so then please accept my apology.

I purchased a new Coleman pop-up in the spring and used it about 5 times, when I realized that the set-up time and canvas issues were not for me. I sold it and bought the A122. The set-up on the A122 is really quick and its nice to have a solid roof over your head. I use a cordless drill on the stabilizer jacks and a BAL leveler to level the camper, it is super quick. The A122 also has a real bed mattress (heated) which is really nice on your back .

Thanks for the reply. So it's not just me. I'm thinking of purchasing one of the Chalet hard sided A frame pop ups but I'm concerned about the ability of my vehicle to pull it's own weight much less that of a camper. These pop ups weigh around 2000 lbs unloaded. What are you pulling with your 4Runner?

It will pull a Chalet no problem - I have a 2011 Trail and a Chalet Alpine model, I just towed it to the beach a couple weeks ago and actually thought the Trail did really well - to get to the coast from where I live we cross the Coast Range - nothing huge but some decent hills and it towed really nice.

At least as well as my 2003 4Runner Sport I had before this one.
