Small red button on dash

Greetings everyone, I just bought a 02 4-Runner 2wd today & was wondering it has a small red buttom on left hand side of steering wheel .. I really dont know if it's factory??? Sr 5 model 112,000 miles $7500, really clean unit.. Not a drop of oil underneath. Post some pic's soon.. Love this forum been reading all I can on the 4 runner from this forum, Thank's for any info....Run On....

Right. Most likely you are referring to a red LED, which may or may not be hooked up to anything. If it says "Toyota Security" near it, then it is the dealer-installed alarm system indicator light.

If it's an actual button, then it is an add-on that a previous owner put there...for who knows what? Could be accessory lights or something for the stereo (antenna control, dvd playback, etc.). Take that part of the dash off and follow the wires going to/from the button.

Check out this site. If your alarm is the same as mine, there is a .PDF named Karr that gives you all of the instructions. The red button, is the valet switch.

Also, when you lock and unlock the 4r by the key fob, does your horn 'toot' or do you get the Toyota 'beep/chirp'?

I noticed that my alarm/antenna wires under the hood had been eaten by a rodent and when I repaired them, my lock/unlock indicator is a short 'honk' / 'honk-honk' when I expected them to be a 'beep/chirp'
