My front skid plate got into a fight with a rock on Engineer Pass.

Lexus parts and repairs are much more expensive than a Toyota. Lexus has also done their best to stop/prevent Toyota dealers from ordering Lexus parts and working in Lexus cars/trucks.

Also the more electronic stuff the more that can go wrong. Remember that stupid computer controlled AC unit in your 2002? The plain old sliders don't wear out.

The GX460 is mechanically identical with the exception of the v8 to the 5th gen 4Runner, and has for the most part nearly all the same electronics, so I don't know what you think is different between them.

My wife has a GX460 - I prefer my 5th gen in pretty much every way except missing the ventilated seats

Hit up Mosquito, Webster and La Sal Pass yesterday. I only grab a few photo's from Mosquito pass since Webster Pass was kind of dull and I was in a bit of hurry when I ran La Sal so I didn't stop.

So, I never noticed when I hit the skid on Engineers Pass that I also cracked the weld on the passenger side. Noticed this today when I pulled the skid plate off.

The weld did not crack it cracked next to the weld. Which is common. Is that aluminum or steel?

That is also real common for aluminum. I originally had an aluminum front skid on my red truck and that same thing happened.

See of you can find a guy to TIG welded it, that looks like aluminum MIG.

I don't know if it's really worth it. The skid plate is kind of twisted (which was also causing the one noise I had) I'd have to find someone or something to try and bend the plate back into shape before having welds repaired.

ARB makes some 1/8" steel skid plates, they go from the front to the t-case, they are not all that expensive either. There is a KDSS version that is what I have on our 2012. They are still light.

A 3/16" steel BudBuilt is very strong, but also very heavy. Heavier the truck, the harder it will be to wheel. Protect it, but don't over load it either, it's a balance.
