Smittybilt compressor on board air

Had the plumbing done a few weeks ago so the pumps was a quick job. I’ve got a 1 gallon seamless tank as pictured and a airline going to the rear jack storage area to a 2 port manifold which has a gage to monitor air pressure. With this setup i can run a air tool for repairs or whatever

do you know what fitting/thread pitch they use for the hose that comes out of the compressor? I want to replace it with a quick disconnect but it's not the same 1/4" that you see on most compressors.

im not sure what pitch it is, but you could just cut that hose short, and use a nipple type quick disconnect on the other end.
I just use mine as is. works great. the only thing, I changed the air chuck side. I used a euro style lock on chuck, much better than that screw on thing.

I just finished mounting my compressor tonight! I hadn't even seen this thread until now. I ordered my compressor like a week and a half ago. XD
Anyway, I used C4 Fab's battery tray and drilled some extra holes. See attached pics. It was about $125 after tax and shipping.
Hope this helps. I'm excited to finish the electrical for an in-cab switch and the plumbing. I'll post more pictures when I'm finished!
PS: I see you're in Santa Clarita, I'm in Simi Valley, so we're practically neighbors. If we're ever in close proximity maybe you can check out my setup if you still haven't done yours.

I was able to finish my install successfully!
Used a C4 Fabrication battery tray to mount the compressor in the engine bay.
All other components came from Amazon or Home Depot, wiring/plumbing parts/copper line/etc.
Buttons came from aironboard.com.
I'm using a furniture leg rubber foot to cover the quick detach and keep out dust and water.

Nicely done! Man I love having the compressor on board. Makes everything so easy. Just make sure you have the engine on when you run it. I forgot one time and blew my fuse. Actually, that reminds me: if you haven’t already, wire in a 40 amp fuse between the battery and compressor. That way if you make a dumb mistake like me you don’t have to pull out the compressor to change the on board fuse.
That’s awesome!! Honestly I like that you got that set up to work! I eventually got the arb dual compressor with bandi Mount. But I rigged it up and went to turn it on and nothing so I have to troubleshoot that. Somehow someway. Which is really frustrating. But I would definitely love to check out your set up! Have you considered covering the wheel well connection? I use brass connections with rubber caps designed for a walker. Usually by the walker caps at Wal-Mart.

I have a little bag of rubber bolt caps that press on over the air connection to keep mud and stuff out. I always forget to take them off before I fire up the compressor and they shoot off in to the wilderness, or if I’m lucky shoot one of my friends in the leg. The brass connection with walker cap is a good idea. I might try that out.

C4 Fab Battery Mount Air Comp Mounting Guide
When I was researching solutions on mounting my 2781 I found this thread. I used LT Ambrose 26's idea of using C4 Fabs mounting tray, but did it a little differently and wrote up a guide on how to do it since it was not clear in his post. So far it has been working very well.

That is a monster !.... :wow: Maybe I was thingin' the smittybuilt 2780 would fit and not the 2781'...
Can anyone provided actual dimensions a (see sheet below)? I ask that as the net' listed 16.1", however image Dontkicktrees' posted shows it in an area that's has only 15" total clearance and it has a little room to spare even.

did you add a pressure switch to let it run?
FYI, I had one of these compressors that was used once and sat around for over a year. The second time I went to use it, it wouldn’t turn on. The coil on the relay had burnt up. Had to cut out the relay and wire nut everything together bypassing the switch. So bring some wire nuts if you do rely on this compressor.
That said, I contacted smittybilt to see if they had replacement relays. They sent me a whole new compressor free of charge even though I was out of warranty. So I can’t be too mad.

No. It is now powered by my switch pros system. I just use the compressor for the tires and don’t have a tank.
so you just reach into the cab each time you need to check pressure or move to the next tire?
