Nice thread and 'Runner...my only question is what the hell do you do for a living to have all this money for parts/mods and free time to do the part fabrication/installation? Keep up the good work!

I am an electricians mate in the Coast Guard. I don't have debt and use my money smartly. I only have 3 new parts on the truck, rear shocks, trans cooler and light bar. Everything else is used which saves me money. As far as free time that's difficult, I have a wife and two kids. My free(ish) time comes when I stand duty or slow days in the shop. I get to cross train with the damage controllmen (welding and fabricating).

Nice, being debt free is key! Ever since I got married and got a $140,000 loan for a house I've felt like the bank has one nut and the wife has the other. I'm on the Dave Ramsey plan for getting out of debt so hopefully in a few years I'll be there with ya. I'm kinda an electrician too (kind of). My Sunday is consisting of wiring up feedback switches, relays, and power wiring for a 12 cylinder natural gas engine that we hope to be firing up before Xmas break. Keep up the good work on the Runner, it's a pretty entertaining thread.

Well, Saturday I thought I smelt some coolant burning, took a look and say no noticeable leaks. So I thought it might have been from when I flushed the radiator and installed the external transmission cooler. Nope, this morning it was a balmy 5 degrees out so I let the truck warm up. When I came out there was a small puddle of coolant under it. The top of the radiator has separated from the aluminum. Time to replace the radiator. At least I avoided a pink milkshake by a week!

By the way, I just bought the 70268 cooler and 4qts of Toyota ATF. I'm looking forward to the peace of mind of having the trans fluid away from the coolant.
I just went with napa brand, the trans cooler side won't be used so I don't care if that cracks internally.
When doing the install, have the 70268 plumbed ready to go. Then disconnect one ps line and attach the b&m line then do the other. I lost less than half a quart of trans fluid that way.

Good news, new radiator is installed! No problems.
Bad news, truck sits at work missing a freeze plug. So after attempting to remove the freeze plug to install a block heater. It started to rotate so I could get some pliers on it. With one light tap disaster struck! The freeze plug fell into the block! Luckily I could still see it. Panicking I tried multiple time over an hours time to remove it failing miserably. Yeah, fearing having to pull the block and disassemble it to remove the freeze plug I kept trying. About 40 more minutes past with no luck. I eventually got a good grip with needle nose vice grips and with one quick pull it came out! A change of pants and sigh of relief was short lived as the block heater does not fit. I do not have the depth the block heater requires to properly seal. It's not close. The freeze plug is buggered up and won't make a proper seal.
So i ultimately made the call to leave it. Out, in the cold, all alone. Until I get either the correct block heater or a new freeze plug.

Block heater is installed. Still on the fence about its reliability and how it is mounted to the block. We shall see if it leaks.
Today I went into the back woods of Maine with the family. We cut down our own Christmas tree. Unfortunately warm temps made the trip muddy. I just kept the speed low so I would cut down on cleaning time later.

Headed into the woods again today, took the family for a ride. My buddy in the tacoma is super jealous of the 4runners rear flex. I made a 3" bump stop drop bracket out of some rectangle steel. That cut down on the rubbing significantly. Still rub on the mud flaps. No big deal sooner or later I'll rip them off.
I feel like I may need tie rods replaced soon. Little play is noticeable with the front end is jacked up.

Sweet build! I like the cheap DIY approach. I got orders back to rockland so it's nice to see some other mainers on the boards. Hopefully I'll have enough cash to ditch my commuter after the move back east and pick up a 3rd gen for myself.

Looks like a few of us came from the Subaru community. Just sold a rg33 swapped 2.5rs, which I used for rally x. The rs was nothing to look at.. just a flat black dipped sleeper with a flat 6 mated to a 2.5rs 5spd, intake, headers and catless exhaust to a STi axleback and a gutted interior, but it was quick. Before that, a hawk eye STi.
I just rebuilt my rear diff, replaced the steering rack and did inner and outer tie rods. Lift, tires and retrofit are next. Great looking 4runner thus far OP.

Completed the deck plate mod, waiting on steering rack bushings and some led light strips. Should all be in Saturday. I plan to make some under hood lighting and extra lighting when the tail gate is open. Also got some cbi ditch light brackets with the rocker switch. I'll modify them slightly to hold a 2' firestik. That will replace the factory motorized antenna. I'm about to pull the trigger on a full cb radio setup.

Had a lot if fun with my Subaru but got tired of the bro's with their stage 2 and stance features. I still am a true enthusiast wanting only quality parts for my build. Pretty happy to say my bugeye only had one eBay part on it. A crx b pillar bar on my c pillar. Still miss that car a lot.
