I've stopped getting notifications for several threads. Just got caught up on this one.
Danny that looks sweet! How was JT? Were you happy with the upgrades?
Al those springs will be great.
I didn't do any real wheeling but I did ride down the old spreckles on my mountain bike again. 17 miles from Jacumba to Ocotillo, all downhill. I can post some pictures later if anyone is interested.
My buddies 12 year old fell 50' down the slope (~60 degrees). His helmet flew off halfway down and he got a good gash above his ear, but miraculously no concussion or broken bones. He walked out.
I did ride down ahead and got my 4runner at the bottom to go pick him up and cut the last few miles off for him. One ER visit, some x rays and some glue later and he's fine.

Been pretty quiet around here so you probably just weren't getting alerts because there's nothing going on. hahahah.
JT was great. Rig handled great for the most part, even got to use my lockers a little bit for shits and giggles. Damned near lost my LCA bolt though so it trashed my cam tabs and my alignment. Had to limp it home after stopping in the Town of Joshua Tree and getting an alignment at Big O. Something is still off, but I won't know until I can get a solid alignment with new cam tabs.
The sad part is, that Chilitown has become a cesspool. There was trash everywhere. Someone legit left a bucket toilet with a bag full of shit in it. Toilet paper, cans, and trash all over the perimeter. Fire pits every goddamn 20 feet. I took care of a lot of it, but I plan on going back in March and finishing what I started.

Normally the LT guys tack weld their alignment cam tabs to prevent movement. You’re the special snowflake that manages to somehow test the limits of Toyota’s engineering so you may as well get a job with their TRD R&D Dept, that way you’re doing this shit on the clock and getting paid for it! Hahaha

I had an alignment done the Sunday before and I even checked the bolts so I'm not sure how that one wasn't even finger tight. The tabs got trashed from the bolt moving around. I may or may not have caught air a few times this past weekend. hahaha. Even with all the weight I'm carrying she hauls ass with 4.88s.

Well, at least you’re smart enough to check the bolts! I had a lifetime alignment with Firestone and learned to double check those f’ers!

Yep, I've got the lifetime too. I can't tell you how many times I've knocked my alignment off because they didn't torque the bolts down. Hoping things stay a bit more settled when I get the cam tab gussets.

Hi all. Went out on our first trek off-road this weekend. Went to play in the snow at Hungry Valley. We had a blast!
Now being completely new to wheeling, there were a few scary times but we got out ok. We are now officially hooked! We want more. Obviously the skill level is beginner.
Is there anywhere around LA that you would recommend to cut my teeth. Any groups that meet up that I could learn from?
Blown away at how the stock 4wd handled.

You could head to Rowher Flats. Plenty of fire road and beginner stuff as well as a few more moderate sections.
So far as groups, it's pretty quiet around here these days. I'd highly suggest keeping to small (under 10 vehicles) groups as a beginner as it allows you to learn more without being (or feeling) rushed.

Thank you for the advice. I had seen Rowler on AllTrails. I also have the book, Guide to California Backroads & 4-Wheel Drive Trails. However I wanted to see what the locals recommend. Thanks again!

Great choice of book. Before I started hanging out on T4R and TW I used that a few times to go check out the easy trails. The easy trails are REALLY easy, mostly graded fire roads. The moderate trails aren't really that hard, but ups the experience needed level. Could likely be done in a stock rig. Hard, you'll need a lift, maybe sliders, and bigger tires. Extreme. No way. hahah. I thought the book lied about extreme, and I got my ass handed to me on one.

Naw I was talking about prewinch and lockers. That ***** has nothing on me now. I walked up some stuff we found in JT like nothing with the lockers.

Nice text me some details on said spots, did you happen to head up to Ivanhoe mine? Best view in the whole area and the climb up grabs your attention for sure

I was headed up Ivanhoe or OK, one of the two, when I had to turn around and meet up with one of the other guys that lost the group. It was a steep loose rocky section I wanna say north of Brooklyn Mine.

Yep I learned that the hard way. Got a little too pedal happy, bounced up and high sided on a boulder in the middle of the climb. Tried to winch off and got the boulder caught up in my skid. Locked back up, reversed and pulled myself off of it. Back in drive, walked right up and over the damned waterfall. I'll send you a text where it is. Cool little one off climb basically.

Oh you’d know if you were headed up Ivanhoe, your butthole would be a little perked up and there’s no room to turn around until the top haha

I'll have to check the GPS tonight. I'm thinking it was probably Ok Mine. There was barely a little shelf to back into half way up that I was able to turn around at.
