So Cal 4Runner BS Thread

hehe. yeah. t4r has been pretty quiet on runs and there aren't too many people equipped or willing to risk damage to do the harder stuff, same on TW. My usual go to Tacoma guys are both down with repair issues and Al had that exhaust leak issue on 2n06x so I've been grasping at straws to find people to wheel with so I can finally test all this stuff.

Stop grasping. I'm in Bishop and am always looking to explore. Defense Mine is high on my list. It's also a trail that I'd rather not be solo on. If you want to try and make it happen let me know. I'm pretty sure AssBurns will vouch for me. 3rd gen, true 33's, full armor, dual locked. I even know how to wheel a little bit. lol

Side note, is anyone having issues with trailsoffroad getting the gpx file link to work?

Yep not working. Site was flawless before they updated recently

Emailed the trails off-road team last night, showed them the issue this is what they said

I follow your thread ,you run some awesome trails up there. Kinda skeptical my truck would make the drive with no issues hahah
So every time I’m up there I’m in the family hauler and stick to the fire roads around mammoth to get my fix

Hahah. If it wasn't so far I'd head up in a heartbeat. Unfortunately all my long trips up north are already planned out for the summer so it's local(ish) wheeling when I can and then it's back to desert season.

Any damage report today? Haven’t heard from Danny , waiting for some pics dammit

Mostly beat up sliders, skids, n bumpers. I heard one guy might've blown his gears over on Gold Mtn. Only issue I encountered was popping a bead off my left front rim. I normally air down to 12-15psi but this run I only dropped to 18. Kevin jacked it up with the hi-lift and we were able to reseat the tire using a Co2 tank. As for Danny, idk if he sustained any damage, he didn't say when we stopped in Crab Flats. Just that he had a few 'pucker' moments. We all did!

Yep Alex blew his rear end. They pulled the ring gear on the mountain and drove it down in fwd. Guess they got home around 3.

Only major damage I sustained was ripping a trim piece off. Alignment can be fixed. Haven't looked at my skids yet but I used all 4 of them. Haha. Hit both bumpers quite a few times, sliders, etc. Almost flopped doing the vnotch on Holcomb but otherwise I made it through Holcomb easier than dishpan. Dishpan was a learning experience for sure and I used some of that on Holcomb. ALMOST made it through the holcomb gatekeeper without a spotter.

I lost a trim piece too. Got ripped off at the waterfall. I agree with you about Holcomb being easier. Dishpan was a tougher run, at least for me this time. I forgot to mention that first obstacle just past the bridge was no joke. You handled it well. I'd say you gained some experience for Dusy Ershim!

Seriously debating Dushy Ershim after yesterday. I did better on Holcomb, but I'm not sure if I can handle 4 days of straight crawling.

I'm doing my best to get on all the "buggy" only trails in my area. So far it's been a blast. Luckily my wife doesn't mind a little woods pinstriping on the rig.

Fire roads can be super fun. There more fun in your built rig though. If you ever drive it north let me know.

I figured suggesting Defense Mine was a good compromise. It's about 2 hours south for me and I think about 3 hours north for you. It's got bypasses on all the hard sections just in case.

I understand about the drive being a PIA though. I have so many trails on my list. I usually just stay local and do stuff in my backyard so to speak. Luckily I've tackled most, if not all, of the tough ones now. That'll force me to travel a bit.

There's so much good stuff up near Tahoe I'm sure I'll be heading that way more and more. Friday my wife leaves for a girls backpacking trip into the Desolation wilderness. They leave out of Wright Lake. Guess what also leaves out of Wright Lake? The Barret Lake Jeep Trail. It skirts the west edge of Desolation Wilderness for 5 miles on wheeling. Friday just might be a sick day. cough cough lol

Crawl, camp. Crawl, camp. Crawl, camp. Crawl.

Those camping sections give you chance to decompress.

My, and I'm sure everyone's, single biggest fear with the Dusy isn't the 33 miles of mostly technical wheeling. It's breaking somewhere within that 33 miles. The length and difficulty provide plenty of opportunity to make an error. That's the real challenge of that trail IMO. Go prepared and wheel smart.

I just got done beating the hell out of my rig on 2 of the hardest trails out here. I've got 3 weeks to get it situated before I do about 1500 miles up and down California. Hahah. I'd love to get up into the Sierra's. Maybe next summer, it just doesn't fit in the plans this year. I'll keep you in mind when I start planning the death valley trips come desert season.

I've got spare parts for everything except my rear diff and driveshaft and I'm slowly becoming a parking lot alignment professional. Had to stop 3 times on my way home yesterday to adjust my tires and still had to fight my steering wheel for the hour home at 60-65 mph.

Road trip? If you need anything passing through the Bishop area let me know. The Sierras aren't going anywhere but they sure are a nice chunk of scenery. Fishing and wheeling are just an added bonus to me. lol

Death Valley has been an area I've wanted to explore more. It's not that far away and it's got some pretty good looking trails. Let me know come winter and we'll make it happen.
