So...you got a lot of miles on your T4R....but....

for you high milers....150k plus, how far of a trip would you drive it? I ask because my 97 SR5 turned 167k over the weekend and its the third trip I've made to Dallas in the month and a half (500-600 miles each round trip) plus over last Thanksgiving, I made a trip from Tulsa to Nebraska, 800 miles round trip.

So, does everyone with the older, higher mileage 4Runners just hop in and make the long trips like I do, or do you just use your 4Runner for local, in town trips? Things do cross my mind like, what if the alternator dies out on me, what if the fuel pump craps out....I think of that stuff but then I remember, this has been my most reliable vehicle I've ever owned and I really don't think much past that.....do you think the same things when you're on a long trip?

This thought crossed my mind as I was making the trip from Dallas back to Tulsa over night....left the Dallas airport at 12:30am and made it back to Tulsa by 5am....I highly recommend the night driving....I get to use my superbright KC off road lights on the long stretches of highway....I keep the sunroof open, the cd turned way up.....great trip....

So, do you trust your 4Runner on long trips, don't trust it, you have your wifes car for the longer trips....feedback appreciated....

I have a 97 with about 160k miles on it and I would not have any problem about taking it on a road trip across the country. I have driven back and forth across North America a few times in different vehicles (van, ford ranger, datsun280z, honda civic, moving truck) and if things are going to happen they are going to happen. Just keep an eye on your temps, and fluid levels and it should be fine.

lol. I just hit 152k and I just drove with a 6x12 U-haul trailer from Dallas to Colorado(12hrs.). Never lets me down on long trips yet. I do regular maintenance that at times havent been cheap. I expect to get hopefully 100k more out of her, but I think that now that i lifted her, she is no long a trans-state car. And if so, it is Hwy 50 to Moab!

I have 205k on mine right now and I will be driving from Denver to Portland to SF to Sacramento to Modesto to Lancaster, to LA to Las Vegas and then back to Denver the first week of April

my 4runner has been to Cali and back and I bought it with 60k on it back in 2002 and it has 205k now

mine still runs great! smooth as the day I got it! Love my T4R!

I have 230k and drive about 3-5k in a period of two weeks every summer down the 101 and out into moab visit the rents in ut and come up and back home to seattle , just drove 20hr back straight from vegas this last summer....

Never paid for camping thanks to google maps and the runner, plus you can take some crazy routes , I once cut through a good chunk of the state of oregon by orv trails when we went digging for sun stones.

Just make sure everything up to par on maintenance and your good to go , like I said 230 on the clock no major work ever and I trust it cross county every summer, never left me stranded and always got me back to my door step without incident .

So so glad I sold my jeep zj, I would worry about 500 miles, lol , what a joke , haha

Once I get my timing belt changed, I'd trust it cross country. I'm at 175k. I have no reason to believe anything will go. Everything I've fixed has been preventative maintenance.

I have 170k, and I would drive mine anywhere. The engine just inspires that confidence. I just drove 1000 miles from Wyoming to Wisconsin, and cant believe that mine cruises at 80 at 2500rpms. For a 13 year old vehicle with 170k miles and not a ton of power, I find that impressive. The engine feels like the most dependable, bullit proof part of my T4R.

Oh, completely forgot, I rolled over 200k in Oct, and took it to Moab and back that same week. thats 370 miles each way... not counting the 4wheeling we did.

I have 224k on mine and would not hesitate to drive it cross country and back. In fact I am trying to plan a trip to Indiana wheel with my brother and then drive back possibly this summer. 2200 miles each way.

Just rolled over 222k in my 97 and went to OKC from Dallas and back yesterday. Very reliable and I am confident every time I get into it. Cant say the same for my X5

just did a LA to davis, to tahoe, to chico with 800lbs in the back. 178k didnt think twice about it. saw anywhere from 85* to 15* including hills and 7000ft altitude.

These are all great things to hear.....it hepls keep me in check....hearing so many people that feel the same way I do....I've kept up on all the pm, I think the only thing I really need to change out are the radiator hoses, they're starting to feel a bit soft, so I threw a roll of duct tape in the back just in case. The older I get, I mean, the older the 4Runner gets, the more miles I enjoy putting on it. When I moved to Tulsa in 1995, I brought my dads 86 Toyota 4x4 here from Nebraska, made numerous trips back home before I sold it a year later, it had 226k miles on it, so, in a sense I guess, I'm anxious to put more miles on my 4Runner than I had on the truck....

Anyway, thanks all for the responses, it helps reinforce I'm not alone in my thinking the 4Runner is a vehicle I can jump in and make a 500-1000 mile trip in and not worry about it.....

Echoing what everyone else is saying pretty much. I just topped 164k, bought it with 155, and I'll take it anywhere. In one week we went from Southern Oregon to Vegas, from Vegas to the Grand Canyon and back in a day, then back home to Oregon without worry.

Just went to Montana from Denver a couple of weekends ago, 173k on the clock. The only thing I would do different is change the oil before I went, I was at 3700 mile since the last oil change, I typically do 5k between oil changes.

I go on trips with no second thoughts.

Had 226,xxx on it in july when we left Ky and went out to Colorado. Ended up at Mt.Rushmore and the Badlands then back home. 3500 miles and not a single problem. I'm not plannin on backin down anytime soon.
Turned over 239,000 this mornin.
