Come on you So Cal guys - we want at least 10 trucks for a good photo session.

Remember we're going somewhere that will cater for everyone from Ventura to SD Counties, 4 and 2 wheel drive, garage queen or rock crawler, newbies and old hats, V6 or V8, man or woman.

Don't be the one sitting on the forum a week later looking at the photos and editorials wishing you had joined in the fun.

We have trucks - let's use them!

Cheifiji - keep us updated as you recieve confirmations...thanks!

Looking forward to the first (Annual) SoCal T4R Meetup!

Look forward to hearing and seeing you guys all sign up this week :D

Cheers
Mark

Just checking...did you recieve a private message from me regarding this thread? I pm'd all 44 people that we knew of in SoCal last week and you were the 4th I pm'd. Just wanted to check and see if all the pm's got thru.

Thanks
Mark

I did get the PM, but I had remebered setting up a notification for PM. But I guess it did not work. So it took me a while to scroll to the bottom of the page and find out I had a message.

So where do we stand on details?
Heres some ideas...

Where: Anza-Borrego/Ocotillo-Wells/Truckhaven

When:
Sunday Jan 23rd

Meeting Spot:
Center of Borrego Springs? 08:00?

Trails: ?
Lower Coyote Canyon (4wd Moderate)
Calcite Mine (4wd Moderate/Hard)
Truckhaven (Varied)
Fonts Point (2wd)
The Slot (4wd Easy/Moderate)
Ocotillo Wells (Vaired)
Blair Valley (2wd)
Pinyon Mountain (4wd Difficult)
Sandstone Canyon (2wd)
Canyon Sin Nombre (4wd Easy)

Groups: 2wd, 4wd

Dinner: ?

i think if we meet at 830-9ish might give some people some more driving time from LA and SD. borrego springs looks like a good meeting place on the map, we could work our way south or east from there. what do you guys think about time and meeting place? we should get those details ironed out soon.

as for the trails phalanx named, ive never been there before but i'm up to try any trail ranging from 2wd to 4wd moderate. there will probably be some 2wd drive folks, newbs (like my self) and some seasoned guys so if we could hit up trails that satisfy everyone that would be great. if theres a trail you dont feel comfortable driving you could always ride along which is just as fun... almost :D .

my thoughts were that we could drive around with a couple of trails in mind, or whatever we happen upon, and just go from there, kind of explore and play at the same time. if you guys feel like we need a more solid plan, like point a to point b, we could do that too.

Well I very much doubt I'll be there at 9am. Its a 4 hour drive from Agoura Hills (west LA County).

Maybe have to try some cell communications and see you out there somewhere although I suspect it might be hard to find you once on the trail....hmmmm.

Rando - what are you planning to do - go Sat. (overnight stay) or head down Sun am? If Sunday, what time are you fixing on leaving home?

Upside is the wife and two kids want to come too. Will depend upon wifes work on Sunday (if there is any).

maybe we should make the start time a little later then, say 930 - 10. that should give us plenty of time to play and get home.

as for commincation, if you have a frs radio, bring it.

also, we should probably pack lunches for sunday.

Yes, bring FRS/GMRS radios; they only have a few mile range but are great for communication between vehicles in a caravan.

Bring folding chairs and a picnic lunch, we can eat lunch somewhere out in the desert.

10:00 AM would work well for a meet time.

Anytime from 9am for a meetup is ok with me....looks like the family is coming with me and we will get there Saturday night.

Just need a meetup point.

Thanks guys.

Mark

I'm heading out there sometime Sunday morning ... just depends on what time people want to get started. I have no problem leaving my place at 5am or earlier.

I prefer the earlier times to maximize the amount of time we have on the trails. Because it's a Sunday night and a long drive, I'm probably going to leave there by 2:30-3pm at the latest.

Anyone bringing a tow strap?

i will, but its the type with hooks instead of shackles. the shackle type seem to be safer and better so i'll see if i can find some of those.

also, we should start posting on just one thread now so we don't have to continually check this thread and the one in announcements. lets post stuff here and i'll just continually update the my first post in the announcement thread to keep everybody else informed.

Summary

It looks like so far we have 5 people going:

1) dcampen - arrive Saturday

2) 04Runner - arrive Saturday night

3) chiefiji - arrive Saturday ?

4) rando - arrive early Sunday morning

5) 4RNR4BB - arrive early Sunday morning

Anyone else?

If there are going to be 3 trucks at the Borrego Palm Canyon campground then someone needs to reserve another campsite as they only allow 2 vehicles per site. It will get chilly at night, I would guess low 40s, so bring warm clothes and blankets. The campsites have fire rings so bring a bundle of firewood.

Who else has FRS/GMRS radios? (You can buy a pair of FRS/GMRS radios for $35 or less).

Meeting place:
I suggest that we meet at the Borrego Palm Campground area, I believe that there is a Visitor Center, parking lots etc. there. I will confirm this when I get home tonight and can look at the park brochure. Again, if everyone had FRS/GMRS radios it would really facilitate us finding each other. Cell phone service in the park is very limited.

I have sent my contact info - cell and home phone numbers, email address, 4Runner description and license plate number to chiefiji; everyone else should do the same and he can compile a list to distribute.

You can buy FRS/GMRS radios at Best Buy or REI etc.
