I won't be camping, I don't think. Wife wants to stay in a motel type thingy seeing as we have the kids and not enough of our camping gear is unpacked (in storage).

I'll post my arrangements later tonight if it's not too late (have a work meeting at 7pm.... ) when I get home.

aw man! I'm gonna be in Chicago that weekend. If I can change my flight, I might be there Sunday morning, if not, then I'll be at the next meet. Have fun wheelin

Sounds awesome--it's been almost a year since my last visit to AB. Depending on how my wife receives the idea, I'm 80% in for Sunday, 20% possibility of joining overnight Saturday. I'm just an hour or so from the park entrance. If I attend, I'll bring an off-the-shelf tow strap and a couple of FRS radios tuned to channel 5 (unless someone announces we're using a different channel).

Here's my own video introduction to the beauty (and fun!) of Anza Borrego.

http://www.irace.net/mt/archives/000107.html

If you watch the video, note a couple things:

- My stock (at the time) 4th gen ran circles around our little Wrangler in terms of traction and articulation, not to mention power.

- Those attending won't be forced to attempt the crazier terrain you'll see; there's plenty of milder trails.

Hope to see you guys there! I'll post again once I have run the idea past my better half.

Awesome...seven! And seems like a few females to soften the conversations;):

I continually remind the wife this is a 4x4 trip, not a stop and take photos of the pretty flowers/cactii - I'm sure she'll find a way tho!

We're staying in B Springs motel so we'll be in conatct with you guys via channel 5 or cell. Will follow up on this later.

She can probably manage some pics of plants while you are taking photos of the 4runners! :D How much was the motel?

I still might go and the girlfriend sounds interested at least. We'll see how my trip to Santa Barbara goes tonight. If the 101 is open or if I have to go through Bakersfield.

Next time.....let's not have so many threads on the same subject. It is a little spread out and confusing IMO.

Better yet, have her takes pics of the cacti and flowers that include the 4runners.

Eh?

What does a trip this weekend have to do with your ability to make the Anza-Borrego trip that is a week away?

Not wanting to do lots of driving two weekends in a row. I know....bad excuse :bash:

How many of the seven have 2WD? That may dictate my decision a little. Don't want to hold all you guys back.

4WD

Lets make a list:

1) dcampen - 4WD
2) chiefiji - 4WD
3) 04Runner - 4WD
4) spblat - 4WD
5) Phalanx - 4WD
6) Rando - 4WD
7) 4RNR4BB - 2WD

So it looks like there will be one other 2WD truck. You should come and even out the ratio. There is lots to see out there, we can stay away from the steep, rocky, rutted terrain where 4WD is important.

Just a small point of correction, you don't actually have to drive through (or even near) Bakersfield to get to SB without using the 101. As a former Btown boy -- I'm often suprised at the number of people who think Bakersfield is on/near the I-5. It's actually 35 miles East of the I-5 at 58.

Not that anyone should care. ;)

Ok, towards Bakersfield. My bad. The 101 opened this morning :biggrin2: so it is no longer an issue.

I'm glad there will be other 2WDs there. Is this 4runner only, or could I invite friends with Domestic vehicles? I assume the answer is yes, but I just wanted to make sure.

I agree, it's hard to keep track of the threads.

Wait I am I going to be the only 2wd? Here's me on the side of the trail as you all climb on past me :awais:

Matt

no prob at all with non-4runners either.

and if it makes any of you 2wd folks feel any better, i have the v6 so i could be in 2wd with you folks till we get to the steep, rocky, rutted sections :D

Count me in too.:D Along with my wife, daughter and maybe my puppy. I also have a couple of FRS radios. Still trying to convince my wife to take her truck instead, don't want to change out my wheels on my truck.:( We are coming from San Bernardino and wife likes to sleep, so I hope I make it there by 10. Both our trucks are 2WD.
