Socal wheelers, need advice

Alrighty. I'm in. Although, someone earlier mentioned Dishpan springs. No way I can do that trail. Don't think I'd get over the 1st boulder. HAHA
 
Has anyone double checked that this trail is currently open? I know there was a snow storm a little over a week ago. Also, does anyone have an SWR meter to tune a CB antenna?
 
I just did one of my Volunteer Patrols for the Forest on Sunday. We ran 2N33 from the Cedar Spring Dam side of Silverwood all the way around to the bridge(T6) at the bottom of Dishpan. The trails have some ruts and some slippery wet muddy climbs with a few patches of snow. We did not run the 2N17x trail but that looked to be the same with patches of snow and mud. I do know the portion where 2n17x rejoins 2n33 was really muddy and would be a serious challenge to get up that last little hill.

With the weather clearing up and expecting to be in the 80's most of the weekend I am sure the trails will be fine.

Ive got Socals info anyone else that wants to meet us at Thornhill broom beach PM me so we can exchange info.

For Thurs Ive got several of the guys info and will be on cb channel 4 I guess... is there cell service up by Silverwood?? or will I need to meet somewhere near there and follow someone up?

Channel 4 sounds good. Cell service is sketchy in that area so we'll probably need to meet somewhere. Texting might work though. I'm gonna try to go out there before dark and find a spot, but I'm not sure how late of a start I'll get.
 
Cool... good stuff. Going to bring my best friend of 14 years along.

I just want to ask, and be honest, since your all of your trucks are more built than mine and have 4WD, would I even be able to run the same trail as what's planned? Because, if I can't, well there's no sense in going really. I don't want to bog anyone down with my 4Runner's inability.

I was told low range is a must on the trail that's planned, but I have still yet to find out whether or not it's the concrete plan.

Not sure what you're planning in that aspect, Shon, since you still have to make it back to CO without messing your ride up.

Yeah, we are definitely doing Pilot Rock and we are starting from the Silverwood side. Ive heard several diff things about it, that its a fun one but not too difficult. I opted for this one because of that. You are right, I know my rig is capable of doing much harder trails, but my goal is not to push my limits and possibly damage my Runner. Its simply to run a fun trail that most everyone can do (which Ive heard so far that is true) and meet all the great guys/gals in Socal. If I want to challenge myself and my rig, there are plenty of places I can do that in Colorado where all my friends can get me and my 4runner (impaired or not) home to fix it)

So, ultimately, I dont know in your case (2wd), but I would love for you guys to come out, camp and if you have to ride along, its supposed to be about having some fun, hopefully that would still be fun I hope.

I was told by driffter that I should be able to run the easier of the two trails just fine. I suppose I'll be joining you, then.

Hopefully on the trail in my own 4Runner, too.

thatll be even more awesome, in the words of the late great SteezeMcqueen- "as long as its not pavement, Im in!" or maybe Im paraphrasing or something. but thats the general gist!
 
I was hoping to get suspension done before next Friday. Looks like I'll be hittin the trail with a saggy rear end instead. Also, I don't have a CB or walkie set yet, so I'll need a time and location to meet everyone Friday morning.
 
wow, that's a rough way to find out you are dead. RIP. May your 4Runner serve it's new owner well.
