Yup, for 400 large, you can hav e a solar powered grill to put in your back yard or take camping !!!! At least theybsaybits portale....I have to say, it looks too big to disassemble !!

Although with a bit of work you can make the sun do a lot for you
its fairly easy to make a solar dehydrator or hot water heater

Don't know if this one is a scam or not but things like this are being used all over the world. There are places that really don't have much wood for burning.

In all seriousness though, that is actually pretty damn cool, albeit a bit bulky for trail use, but for a bug out shelter it would be pretty rad. And I was kidding about the cupcakes.... not so much about the pineapple upside down cake....:banana:

between the 20~40 minute set up and the "you better not dent/warp the mirrors" I would not take it out on the trail.. but if you have a cabin out somewhere... pretty neat. Oxidation of the mirror surface is what will kill this thing long term. unless you can store it inside and out of the weather when not in use.

Hey folks!

I don't mean to troll your forum but thought I might be able to answer a few questions since they came up...I'm one of the people behind the SolSource (and also own an '86 T4R).

You don't have to worry so much about denting the reflector, or oxidation of the reflective surface. It's not a mirror - it's a special polymer we developed in house to perform year-round in the elements of the Himalayas. This all started because nomads we were working with on environmental protection came to us with an idea to use the sun for household energy. Right now there are over 4,000 nomads using it...and women carry it by hand when they move camps (it weighs half of what yak dung they would otherwise collect each day).

But, if you're looking to trek, then this isn't something you'd take with you on the trail, but use at your camp. I was in Jackson Hole using it at my campsite just two weeks ago...folds down to the size of a guitar case.

I like the Satoshi grill idea!
