Some direction (help) getting new 4Runner

Limited

Sounds like Limited is ideal. With AWD you never have to worry about on-road traction. Power running boards are very nice, make it easy to get in and out. Finally, xreas does help level truck on corners. Not an ideal off-road set up, but perfect for around town in a wintry climate.

Been a few weeks. We finally got a truck: 2015 Limited, black/black with 3rd row seats. Wife wanted retractable running boards but agreed to live without them because for the color combo she wanted this was all that was available.

Couple of questions for you guys and some comments:

- They offered to extend our free maintenance to 35K miles for $325. This actually seems like an ok deal, assuming the 30K maintenance costs significantly more than this. What are people paying for 30K service?

- Dealer offered us a Toyota extended warranty that goes to 75K miles. The others I've seen are 100K. Confused about what this is. If we want one we'll get it from that dealer mentioned here who sells 100K Toyota warranties at a discount.

- I really dislike the wheels and hate the tires. I followed the wife home on the 30 min drive back from the dealer - it just looks ridiculous. Going to order SR5 wheels from the place mentioned on the forum (I think they're ~$150 each) and put those one. Winter is coming, so by the time they get here I'll probably go with snow tires. That'll get us through February and I can think about what to do long term.

- I haven't driven it yet. Wife seems thrilled so far.

I am probably not even going to use the free maintenance but if you think about it your just buying an (1)oil change and (2)tire rotations for $325

extended warranty???? i bought one and then returned it the next day because in the fine prints its basically nothing, if i were to buy a GM/Ford other car that had plenty of issues a extended warranty would be worth it but with a Toyota/Nissan/Honda i wouldnt even bother, put that money into a special account in case you need to fix something (outside warranty)

No comment about tires, not many options in 20" i would go like you said SR5 or possibly TE and see if you can find some "take offs" locally to save some dough

Only downside of a KDSS model is that it costs more to lift--otherwise it's a great system.

If you want to haul a family, the Limited is great since it has full time 4x4, but it looks like it has an unfortunate dental appliance.

Check around on the for sale section. You may be able to find some at a good price w/rubber.

I went from a 2010 Limited to a 2014 Trail Premium with KDSS. The Limited was great (I'm on my 4th 4R) but I did hate the 20 inch wheels. I changed the tires to 275/55-20 Goodyear Silent Armor and had great results in some pretty serious snow (and they were nice and quiet the rest of the year). I tend to do some light offloading and basically just like the looks of the Trail so I went that way this time. I will say, it may be because the Trail is new, but with the KDSS and the 17 inch rims, it seems to ride much smoother and handle every bit as well as my Limited did. It's a trade off going to the trail - you lose the push button start, not quite as robust a stereo and heated seats, but not ventilated (probably a few other little things that i haven't noticed), but for me, the Trail was the better choice.

For me too. The wife prefers the limited. I drove it through some tight turns in the hills today. Have to say that X-reas is pretty nice in terms of cornering and sway/roll management.

Are you talking installation wise? Don't think there is a KDSS specific suspension system. But hell, I am mostly wrong.

TPMS issues...?

One more q on different wheels for winter: do you guys get another set of TPMS for the new wheels and reprogram? That looks like a PITA. Anybody using the same TPMSs for both set of tires and having the tire shop swap them? Is this a reasonable thing to do? Am I just asking for them to get broken if they get moved to new wheels 2x per year?

Buy a limited, ditch the low profile wheels and get some 17's and snow tires.

Also the KDSS specific lift stuff mostly deals with cost of labor.

I also know that Toytec includes spacers for the sway bars for the regular suspension, but not with the KDSS.

Those a nice wheels, but I didn't see any at a reasonable price locally. I just bought Trail wheels from somebody here. Shipping was not too bad. I probably could have found some locally over time, but I'm in no hurry and the price was good.

Done, done, and will do. Not sure if I'll ditch the 20" wheels. If the wife likes the look of the 17s, we may sell the 20s.

(Old thread but I wanted to comment on this for anybody doing research on 2015 LEs.)

This is great advice. The TRD wheels are offered as an upgrade for $215. This wasn't an option when I was buying (or I missed it). I don't think 2015 4Runners were even on the Toyota web site when I bought mine. If I knew this was an option I would have jumped on it. I'm guessing they would swap them for free in most cases.

My bad for not even asking the dealer about it. I would have been happy to not have the 20" wheels on the wife's truck. Now that she's seen them I may not be able to change them out for Summer.

We're running Trail wheels for winter. They work well and look great.
