Glad you are OK. These LBJ failure threads have convinced me to take a day off next week and replace them and the outer tie rod ends. Already have the OEM parts and am ready to jump in. Overtime pay will help with the new radiator then too. At 188,000 miles I feel that I could be on borrowed time.

i noticed my steering get sloppy about a week before it happened, if that helps. definitely do it before, between towing and the shop i spent $1650...

well in that case, Im just use to southern california. its spread out. If someone doesnt have a garage they have a nice flat driveway to work on. I guess doing stuff parked on a street side would really suck

It sucks when you can't depend on your friends to help out when you need them. I often let friends use my garage for stuff like this, even when I don't have time to help them, or I'm away, etc.
 
I am surprised they did not replace the outer TREs. Did they use OEM parts? How much was the labor? At least you are back on the road.
 
Clifton you get some new armor we don't know about yet? Soon as I get the bugs worked out of my 4wheel I'll be right behind ya lol..
 
i guess i know what I'm replacing next! I'm at 203k now and haven't replaced anything but regular maintenance. ball joints are being ordered after this is posted!
 
I did jump a page or two in this thread so forgive me if this has been covered already but is there a way to gather all the ppl that this has happened to from all the forums weather its tacoma or 4runner and make a list or even a thread with all the pics of this failure and send it to toyota so they can see how often this is occurring still to see if they would even be willing to look into it farther, if not it would still let them how often this is still happening and the damage it causes.....just a thought

yeah, worst part is a lot of them have huge garages and i made 3 or 4 phone calls before getting fed up and taking it to a shop. i blame this state everyone sucks up here

i was going to send toyota an email on my own but this seems like a more interesting pursuit.

im not trying to shoot this idea down or anything, but a lot of you guys have lifted rigs, bigger tires, and or heavy bumpers ect. basically you have modified your trucks and toyota will tell you that the stock suspension(including LBJs) are not/were not intended to handle things like that. but yes i totally agree that it is a poor design and toyota should of done something different. if they do compensate you for something then great, but dont hold your breath for even a sorry
