wow consider yourself lucky, it seems like you broke the bolts but caught it just in time before having anything really bad happen.
also good thing it happened before you went into the trail and not while all the way inside..
another question, when you installed the extended rear brake line from toytec how was fitment and overall installation? ive heard good and bad stories about them and am thinking i should get one too but heard its hit or miss with fitment issues?

Yeah it was super shitty for it to break but for sure I would have had a much worse time if it had broken down on the trail. Also I am glad I stopped as soon as it happened, if I would have kept driving my front end would have for sure dug into the ground.
The toytec rear line seems legit to me, seems really heavy duty and does the job. I'm confident that it'll do the job.

How many miles are on it? I'd sat around 7-7.5K to the right person. What are you thinking of getting instead?

It has 105,xxx miles. I really like tacoma 4 doors and the fj cruiser is what I really want.

With 105K, I'm sure you can pull in 8-9k to the right buyer. I thought you had more miles than that. Yeah I love the 4 door Tacoma's, you going with a 1st or second gen? I couldn't do a 1st because they are a little too small. I've never been sold on the FJ's, but that's just me. Good luck if you go through with it.

I'm not sure if I'll do it or not. I like not having a car payment. I probably won't sell it, I think I just get frustrated when things break lol.

Yep. Just unscrewed the old line and screwed that one in. Then bled the brakes and I was good to go.

Hey man sorry to hear about your LBJ failure, total drag for sure. fortunetly it wasn't deep on the trail, because that would have really effing sucked! Did you have to get it towed back home?
*However Im glad to hear that not selling your 4R! I about shat myself when I first seen your post. Your truck still has plenty of life still left in it, it would be hard to let it go & car payments suck. Altough i really like the 4-door Tacoma's he he.
BTW im starting to get really concerned about my LBJ's after seeing what happened to yours, so I checked out mine and noticed that my drivers side LBJ has a small tear in the rubber bushing! Upon further inspection I found that my UBJ & LBJ's on both sides are oozing out oil.
I'm pretty sure they are original ones and i've got 211k+ on the clock.
I'm sure you will update us on your repair job.... Maybe you could help me with mine??

Yeah I had to get it towed off the trail because it would have been way to easy to steal parts off of it. And you might want to post pics of your balljoints and let the guys who have more experience with it. All I can say is if they are ripped and destroyed you might wan to consider taking it real easy on the t4r til it's cleared and fixed.

I'm probably going to order both UBJ's & LBJ's asap. I'm definetly not going to hit any trails anytime soon,

Don't know if this will help but when I was lookin into getting a t4r this thread was a huge helper. And I also came across this recall. Easy enough to go into a dealership and have them check the vin# for the LBJ. For the upper... good luck, I would replace sooner than later. Hope this helps

LOWER BALL JOINT FAILURE
Don't get too freaked out, this is also a fairly uncommon problem. It is mostly an issue of failure to maintain, or if someone disregarded the Recall. In 2005, Toyota recalled over 3/4 of a million 3rd gen 4Runners for this exact issue. The issue is that the Lower ball joint, which holds the spindle and control arms together, can rupture while driving. This will cause the wheel to fall off, break the CV axle on that side, and cause total loss of control which can lead to an accident. The lower ball joint can wear faster than normal on trucks that are lifted, have an aftermarket bumper, and larger tires. This issue will become a concern if the vehicle was called for recall and never brought in, or if the Ball Joints have a very large number of miles on them.
