so i have a v6 2006 runner and switch between H2 and H4 regularly and have never seen this happened before. i also did a search and couldn't find anything.
so as i was driving today (around 50mph), i turn the knob from H2 to H4 expecting it to engage after 3-5 blinks. there was a very very VERY slight curve but i didn't expect it to be a problem. i only had to turn my steering wheel about 10 degrees to make the curve. so the 4WD didn't engage. i would expect it to continue blinking with the green 4WD and yellow center differential lock light but no! this time, it started blinking 4WD+CDL+4LO light. the blinking frequency is twice as fast. i couldn't just pull off the road so i continue to drive for another 15 miles since i didn't feel anything wrong even with the lights blinking.
i was able to finally pull off into a parking lot. the car felt normal going straight. it felt a bit tight when i was turning. it felt exactly like how you try to switch from H2-H4 and turn at the same time before it was engage so i wasn't too worried about it.
so with the 4WD+4LO+CDL light still blinking, i turned off the car. when i turned it back on, the VSC light was on! the 4WD+CDL was blinking normally now like usual. with the VSC light on, i put the car into D and it won't move! i tried it a couple more times and it still wouldn't move. i didn't want to just press the gas petal in fear of breaking anything. i was freaking out at that point. eventually, i put the car in R and the car moved and the VSC light went off. i have played around with the car, it goes from H2-H4-4L okay. CDL seems to be working as well.
has anyone seen this happen before? Should I be worried? sorry about the long post.

based on what i've read and was told, there is no harm to the drivetrain using 4hi on the pavement. if that's the case, how are the V8s doing it?
