Sometimes I think about selling

Yes I've had this happen to me.....especially in my truck (HD with rear leaves, doesn't like bumps :bash: )

And yes ABS is great, even with this flaw, but auto manufactures have had how many years to perfect ABS. I remember people saying that the first ABS systems seem to work worse than non ABS braking systems. It takes a while to work out all the flaws....and with all the flaws that seem to be in traction control systems, I'd rather not have them.....

I can tell you that in my Lexus, it has a separate computer (VDIM system) that controls all these systems and it works flawlessly.

I personally believe I'm going to do what gizmopt2002 did and install a one time off switch to just disengage the VSC. I would just unplug the wiring harness by the master cylinder, but I like having ABS and ATRAC. What color is the VSC wire again....

:bigok: [/B]

Unfortunately brad, when one wire is cut, the whole system is "cut" so to say. I've have been looking into this for awhile now. I was thinking of creating a "fake" source so it thinks its on but it isn't actually on. With school and a job, I don't have enough time to look into this, plus my '95 doesn't have VSC so I'm not as concerned about it for now. I've taught my mom how to use the switch though. You can shut on the car in N and restart. Problem solved, no stopping to plug it back in.

You would be amazed how the V6 can spin those Revo's, I would post up a pic if anybody wanted.

Yes, I want to see wheel wells full of smoke!

As for the V8 owner's, you already have to connection for it. Pop out one of the blanks to the right of the Center Diff. switch, you'll see a blue plug wrapped in off white/yellowish foam. That is a VSC off switch per Toyota's electrical diagrams.

Could you post the diagram or link or something where I could find this info?

Also, I much prefer VSC off ALL the time. I can control how much I can spin the tires.

It is good to find out the limitations of the vehicle outside of VSC parameters, provided its done without putting anyone at risk.

Double-pump override?

Okay, smart folks, here's my opinion on what we need to solve this problem.

When you stomp on the gas and the Toyota electronics decide they know better than you do and cut the engine, if you let up on the throttle, then stomp it again, the driver should get the throttle control back.

Is there some control signal that can be triggered (via addon box?) to disable the throttle-cutout?

The logic is simple for the box.

1. When throttle cutout is triggered
2. TPS >75%, start timer
3. When TPS <10% then >50% within 2 secs, trigger "bypass" mode

Thoughts?

I've been thinking along exactly the same lines as DiskDoctr. The traction and stability control can be very handy, and can do things that we mortals can't, such as applying brakes to one or both wheels on one side only. Also, with wheel, yaw, steering angle, and deceleration sensors plus a fast little computer the system can react quickly.

But sometimes an experienced driver can do better, and it would sure be nice if the system could recognize driver intent and go into a bypass mode until the situation is over. Full throttle or something close is one signal I wish the system would pay attention to.

I've got lots of experience in snow, mostly from my younger years in a snowy state and with more primitive iron. I've experimented with my 4runner quite a bit and what I find is that it generally does very well accelerating, braking, and turning in slick situations. Traction control is a little conservative, but I usually get acceleration as good I could manage with careful use of my foot, and sometimes better. Plus it works just as well in reverse!

Lately I've been had traction and stability control disabled (a problem I just fixed) and I was surprised how easy it is to spin wheels, especially in 2WD. Even in 4WD, the power of the 4th generation 4Runners is enough to quickly get an inexperienced or inattentive person in trouble, and so I think it's a beneficial thing, on balance. Nonetheless I'd really like both a button to disable the aids and a system that paid attention when I gave it full throttle.
