Sonoransteel 2.1 lift installed-PICS! Still debating on tire size...37's sound nice.

I received my 2.1 kit yesterday and had it installed today! Its definitely beefy.:yummie: The truck definitely sways more and feels a bit more "squirly", though its noticeably stiffer(bumps can be felt more now). One thing i like better is the car used to nose dive then jerk back and dive in the rear when brakes were applied hard, now thats gone. Maybe it was just that my old shocks/springs were worn.

Now if i can just decide on tires. Im wondering how much body lift ill need to clear 35's, and if any body lift will clear 37's....ideas?:corn:

I would not get 37's. If you wanted 37's you should have gotten a solid axel. Your cv's would hate you if you got them and you would be changing the cv's all the time. The biggest I would go is 35's. The lift looks really good though.

:jump: I believe you mean 1.2 lift kit. I'm not a big fan of the SS lifts, but your 4Runner looks sick! I'm pretty sure you would have to add a body lift in order to clear 35's then regear etc.... Just go with 33's and call it a day.

When I was researching to clear 35's you need a 1.5" lift and some small trimming on the inner fender. Sonorans website gives all the directions to make them fit.

37"s on a 4runner? Good luck. It would take a lot of work.

It doesn't look like you can even fit 35"s with just that lift. Probably gonna need at least 1.5" of body lift.

Im certain ill never transfer to solid axle so id like to know more about why you say ill go through cv axles. Is it the cv joints that need to be beefed up?

bgmac thanks for the correction i did mean 1.2 kit, lol.

What are the "perfect" gears for 35's?

If you guys say 1.5" minimum body lift im wondering if i should just do 2" to be safe to clear 35's.

The angle of the cv's would be pretty severe with the 37's. There is really not much you can do other than putting in a solid axel. Most people that do a sas go 37 or bigger. Us with IFS should stick with 33's or 35's. For 33's i would go with 4.56 and 35's I would go with 4.88 if this is your dd, you dont want to go to low.

What does a 1.5" body lift cost and does it include EVERYTHING necessary(bumper lift, gear selector lift, ect, etc)?

What brand/type tires should i get for the quietest hwy ride but still an all terrain tire and best price????

I would go with 33's if this is your daily driver and don't want to wear out your CV's as mentioned above,,,but if you really want 35's then a great body lift is
4crawler's body lifts, here is the link: http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/ForSale/Toyota4RunnerBodyLift.shtml#GenIII.1 These body lift kits pretty much come with everything you need. At a good price.

I dont know if its just me but i find that webpage confusing as hell. I cant figure out the cost for the complete kit and what all it comes with.:help: It apperas to be $234.50 but im still unsure if that raises the rear bumper or if any kind of ebrake or brake line extensions are needed. And that guys email link didnt work for me.

Also, i think i understand the bigger the tire the greater the axles angle, but what is actually the part that wears out and why...not trying to be hard headed id just like to better understand the technical reason. Is there a permenant fix(modify the axles maybe)?

As far as tires, im thinking of either the bfg all terrain ta's or the Toyo all terrains unless someone has a better idea for an all terrain tire that wont make too much noise on the road.

Thanks guys for any and all advice...i wouldnt have gotten this far without yall.:hello:

BFG for the tires all the way!

For the 4crawler lift: the website is a little confusing, but you basically pick all the options you want...I went with a 2" and that's what I would recommend...here's all the options I got:
standard 2" blocks
radiator drop brackets
front bumper brackets
steering shaft extension

the rear bumper bolts to the body, not the frame...so no modification is necessary

Ok guys well after all the debating between 33's and 35's and everyones advice i decided on 33"(285/75/16) Toyo Open Country AT's.

I was happy to discover i CAN keep my running boards without interference. Just to be safe we trimmed the front of the running boards and the rear of the front bumper fender flares.

She stands at 6'4"(top of roof rack), low enough to fit under most parking garages, the car wash, and in my garage.

Here are the current pics:rocker::

If I can make a suggestion??? Try looking at some new wheels that have a 4 to 4.5" backspacing! They widden the track width of the truck and I find gives it a beefier look! I went with Procomp Bullet Hole Wheels, and I love them! I matched them with MAXXIS BIGHORN Mud Tires, and really love the look I got with them.

Thanks for the comments guys i will try to take some better pics.

About the wheels, what is the offset or backspacing of my stock wheels? I have my eye on a style that comes in either 16x8 or 16x10, what is best for my 285/75/16's, and if i think i may upgrade to 315's one day should i do the 16x10's for sure at that point?

One more thing...what is necessary to lift the front suspension 2" more inches. I have more room to go up on my adjustable struts but i need to know what else needs to be done, do i need longer axles or something?
