Sound deadening doors?

Did more than the doors. Everything other than the roof, rear footwell, and front footwell, are covered inside and out. The rest will be done soon.

Just add a decently large piece of noico on the outer panel. It will give you that satisfactory door close whoomf.

When it comes to sound deadening I am more interested in making the truck as quiet as possible when it comes to road noise. We have a 6 month old daughter so we aren't rocking out lol. Good amount of traveling...would be great to have a quieter truck on the interstate.

MLV? Second Skin Luxury Liner?

What do you all think? What should my expectations be on how much I can improve road noise?

I'm not familiar with it but second skin luxury liner appears to just be their name for MLV

mass loaded vinyl is what will absorb the road noise, brand is irrelevant

From what I hear most guys say the nose reduction part is minimal but I don't have any first hand account of that.

Did you have to upgrade your rear hatch gas shocks to hold up the extra weight ? I deadened everything other than the inside door skins, and with the Toyota Focal speakers the stock gas shocks for my rear hatch barely lifts the hatch fully open. I used Stinger Roadkill, maybe there's a weight difference in the material used. I think a case of 36sq ft weighs about 30lbs, I used 3 cases to do the entire truck

But one still needs to start with butyl pads to absorb vibration in the outer skin. Makes MLV fat more effective.


I have also added a panel of Noico foam to the middle of the door panel. Also for sound quality - dissipates things a fair bit.

I “think” it improved road noise, but not to the point it is completely obvious.

I Dynmate-ed the entire rear (cargo and rear passenger) of my truck years ago - floor, sides, roof. Took a week and a lot of cuts and bruises and honestly pretty disappointed.

I also sprayed some bed liner underneath the truck.

What else can be done? No expense saved! Sealing the underneath of the truck with Dynamat as an example? Two or three coats of Linex?

Mass Loaded Vinyl in the doors and under the carpet would be my recommended next step. As mentioned earlier in the thread, Second Skin brands their MLV as Luxury Liner. Their Luxury Liner Pro product has closed cell foam already attached to the MLV giving you simpler installation.

I've also heard of denser closed cell foam applied with MLV for use in commercial vehicles with more space and less focus on looks (semi-trucks etc). My understanding from talking to my local audio shop is that it can be harder to get the carpet to lay right / fit because it doesn't compress as easily (which is the point from a sound deadening perspective).

Ah yeah it was really bad lol. I have the inner skin and outer skin covered, there is a lot of added weight.

Haha, thought so. I may look into getting heavier shocks later although I do like how it is now where pulling down the hatch past a certain point will let it close on its own

Mine didn't stay up at all, had to hold it open to matter what. Stronger shocks were not an option lol

dynamatting your whole truck is not going to kill all the road noise. Past a certain point, it is the glass.

No I have not. but I was looking online at that foam after it was mentioned above. Looks promising.

I wish there were some Db testing to substantiate any claims. I'm just sick of the road noise my truck generates with big tires and I really cant listen well to music while on long trips because of the road noise.
