Jeez, I want KDSS and ended up getting one without it. Who knew I'd have a unicorn!
Check cars.com with the tips supplied above or hit your local dealer and have them locate.

I have a non KDSS trail premium. I purchased my 4Runner in Reno, NV which is right on the border to NorCal. They had a silver non KDSS on the lot at the time, but I wanted black. There was one allocated to a dealer in CA and they traded to get it for me. They are rare, but not impossible. Also my dealer was able to look up other Toyota dealers to see what they had coming to them from the factory as well as what the factory was building at the time.
Yeah, I've tried multiple dealers in my area and most of them are morons! They just want to sell you what they have on the lot and couldn't care less when you ask them to locate. Trust me, I've tried.
Not to mention the local region trails only come with kdss. That is why I was asking where he got it!

True I forget about that at times. I've purchased all of my vehicles over the last 6 years from cars.com. Picking exactly what options and colors I want. I've had a few purchased from out of state and trucked in to my home. Shipping is about $1 a mile also.
Another thing to do is when you do find the vehicle you want on cars.com, go to the dealers website where you found the vehicle and enquirer about it. Most have a lowest internet price for the vehicle just fill out your name and email and they will send you their lowest price. I just did this with my father in laws new Corolla and saved him an extra $1200 over the Costco price and got him into a Corolla S rather the the LE premium he was going to buy. So that's like a $2200 savings over what the dealer and he had dealing. $1000 more car for the S and $1200 more savings with Internet price. I just found and bought a new Avalon Touring a week ago like this too and saved $5500 with Internet pricing as well. Better then my Costco price.
If you do buy out of state it's really easy. You give them a deposit like on a credit card after you've been pre qualified.. They call you back after that and discuss the real numbers, then you agree and work out pick up or delivery.. They should one day you over all the documents and you read over and sign and one day them back. Once they receive the papers back you work out shipping or pickup.
You'll have to smog a out of state vehicle once it gets to California for registration. Make sure they fill out your city's tax rate and title and licenses correctly too.
Love cars.com. It's literally like ordering a pizza.

I got mine at Springfield Toyota in Oregon. They had (2) non-KDSS Trails in white! I obviously took one. Got it for $35.8k before tax and what not. If you are interested ask for Tim or Rodney (both are internet sales managers). There was also a Magnetic Gray non-KDSS Trail at Kendall Toyota in Bend, Oregon. I preferred white and Springfield was a 15min drive from the Eugene airport. Rodney even was willing to pick me up from the airport so it all worked out. Drove the 8 hours back to Norcal.
Let me know if you have any other questions. I used The Edmunds app to single out non-KDSS Trails by trim and price as they are around $1.5k cheaper than ones equipped with KDSS.
