Spacer lift to keep factory rake?

Hey all,

Please school me on lift/rake. Searched many times and could not find the answer to what may be a dumb question;

Is there a negative to keeping factory rake other than front approach angle? Is there any benefit?

In my mind I want 1.75 to 2" lift all around. Other than the daystar 2.5" front and rear kit are there any other options?

I would like to lift on the cheap with spacers, because the plan is ultimately to make room for 18" FN BFDs and 275/65s. 1Engineers fitment guide makes me believe I could do this without lift, but would like a slightly taller stance while in "my mind" maintaining better street manners.

Your thoughts and experiences appreciated. Thanks.

I cant think of any negative to keeping the factory rake other than your own personal taste. As for me, I prefer it. I don't think it is extreme enough to really effect the approach angle. If you eliminate it though, and load up the rear with cargo you can end up with a reverse rake or "saggy butt." For the lift you want you might look at the Bilstein 5100 adjustable shocks which let you have 0.85", 1.75" or 2.5" of front lift. They are more than a spacer though. Toytech also has a front 2" spacer lift for $139 that you could combine with a rear spacer.

Front 2" Lift Spacers

The rear measures about 2" higher than the fronts. With the daystar you would still have rake, 1" higher in the rear. People do it for clearance and looks. You can fit those tires on your stock suspension. Also if you do a 1.5" lift in the rear, your shocks will extend to far going over speed bumps and make a loud thunking sound. If you want to do it right and cheap, do the bilstein 5100 shocks, about 350 for the set. Improved ride and you can use them I the future if you want to put on more lift.
cornfed has a 2" front 1" rear lift that would work better with stock shocks.
10-11* Toyota 4Runner Cornfed Suspension Lift kits

Or check ebay, there are 1.5", 2", 2.5" and 3" spacer lifts.

STX and Rok thanks for the quick replies. I know spacers aren't the best idea for lift, but I'm about to blow the bank on wheels and tires.

Rok thanks for the link to Cornfed spacers. Why do you suggest "2 in front and 1" in the rear? Wouldn't 1 and 1 keep factory rake?

if you're worried about something like approach angle, this, to me, says that you might actually be using your truck off road. if this is the case, bite the bullet and get proper coilovers. the end result of running spacers
off road will be broken shocks and wasted money.

For ~$100 more than I was going to spend on a toyotec spacer lift, I scored a set of new bilsteins for front and rear. I am probably not going to do a lift but will raise the front end to the .85 setting on the fronts. If I ever want to add lift, my shocks will already be ready for it since I can go another click or two on the front and add whatever type of lift I want to the back up to 2". I will likely still end up with some visible rake but not as much. But prefer that over negative rake.

Reason I suggested the cornfed 2/1 lift because you wanted something at 2", you do not want to raise the rear 2" or even 1.5" with stock shocks because of overextending the rear shocks. This would give you a small rake and the lift your looking for, plus will work better with your stock shocks. Also IMO a slight rake, with rear being 1" higher looks much better than the factory rake of 2".

Much thanks to everyone for the advice. Now I'm looking at Bilsteins and more $$$. We'll see what I can get away with. Hope to have some pics in the Lifted thread soon.
