Spacers with FJ Coils

Hey T4R Gang,

I'm loving my FJ lift (front & back) with 4Runner 5100s, but the rear needs a little boost. I'd like 1" spacers on there for a simple solution, but am not sure if I should look for 3rd gen spacers or FJ spacers.

Bonus points for someone providing a link to what I should buy! (Is there a lazy emoji anywhere?)

Thanks!!

anyone? Buehler?

I grabbed the daystar 1.5” hockey pucks that are specific to 3rd gen. Do you think these will work with a wider diameter FJ spring or should I find an FJ set?

Wanna figure it out before I go through the hassle of taking springs off.

The daystars should work, but if you wanna wait a few days I have daystar spacers and LC coils in storage I can test fit together for you and report back. Drop me a PM if interested

The other way of approaching this would be to get the correct height spring for the lift you want. Look here http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-gen-t4rs/66976-3rd-gen-4runner-lift-information-faqs.html

Lastly, no matter which route you go, spacers and springs or taller springs, longer shocks and a longer rear brake line are in your future.

Sorry I am just now seeing this, but I found out that the daystars would have been sketchy with the FJ springs due to the bigger width of the coil. So instead I threw on the LC springs and now I’m wayyy up!

Now this isn’t a question I’m proud to ask, but if I’m on-road only, is there an urgent need for me to get extended brake line & new shocks? Or can I survive with my 5100s? Totally understand that if I’m going off road I need those things to cover extension, but on road with the sway bar connected I don’t know how much trouble I can get into.

Thanks!

How does the brake line look when the axle is at full droop? You can bend the brackets to get a bit more usable length out of it.

If you are still on stock length shocks, it is unlikely the brake line is going to be a problem. Though, with that height, you'll want longer shocks (you are probably near max length of the shocks at static height).

Yeah I know I’m delaying the inevitable, but I don’t have tokiko blacks laying around so I’ll have to get by with this setup for a little while.

To answer the brake question, it was tightish when fully dropped, so it thinking I’ll be alright as long as I don’t try to flex the suspension.

An extended brake hose is cheap insurance against losing your rear brakes, and for what it's worth, when I installed 890 rear coils I upgraded shocks and brake hose just because. YMMV

Flexing the suspension is less strain on the brake line than being fully drooped, so you are ok. Definitely replace the line before putting on any extended shocks though.

Also, if you do any work that requires bleeding the rear brakes (axle seals, diff rebuild, etc.) do the line at that time. A new stainless line is cheap...

Heck, I'm on stock springs and shocks in the rear (for now) and I have an extended rear brake line... It was easy to do while re-gearing...
