Speed sensor wire

Finally got under the truck last night to take a look at the speed sensor and found what looks like the wire frayed. This is the wire that goes to the speed sensor on the RR wheel. The bracket holding the wires is rusted off. Have a bunch of lights on the dash from it. Does anyone know if you can sort of splice the wire? Like if I cut a section out, would I be able to join it together again? I don't know what type of wire it is, or if it like a coax or something. I figure it would be easier than replacing the whole wire if it's possible.

I had the codes pulled and they were C0210, C1226 and C1238. One is RR wheel speed sensor. The sensor looked fine.

The wires aren't coax or anything like that. There's a white and black wire heading into the harness. They're likely 18-24 gauge stranded copper wires.

If you're going to try and splice a section in as a repair, it's probably worth getting some heat shrink butt splice connectors. Also, not a bad idea to be sure that the sensor and harness are totally clean (electric parts cleaner will help, but is not necessary).

How did the wire get damaged? Did you over stretch it during a lift (not criticizing; it's just that I damaged mine installing a spacer lift 1.5 years ago). I do not think that you are going to be able splice it back together. I was going to try this, but for the life of me, I cannot remember why it was not feasible. I ended up purchasing replacements off of ebay.

ok, thanks. I think I will try it. I do have heat shrink tube, so I will use that after soldering (as long as I can get to it good enough to solder it).

I'm not sure how it got damaged. I know the little bracket that secures it to the frame rusted away and is hanging there, but I'm not sure if that caused it. I'll try it and see how it works - nothing to lose...
