Spod touchscreen worth it? Any reviews?

I don’t own either but I do like the Switch Pro unit… It’s just simple and compact

That said, I’m a bit old school in that I still prefer to build my own relay rack and power distribution stuff. One its stupid easy, two it’s cheap to make, and three it’s super easy to troubleshoot, fix, or even bypass if you had an electrical issue on the trail. The only thing that would really ever die is the relay itself and those can be hot-plugged in a matter of seconds. I always keep a spare in the electrical kit.

These logic based units are great too, but if/when they fail, it could leave users in much tougher position. That said, I don’t really hear much of any reports of failures.

So why not the HD Switch Panel? Everyone I talked to said it was much better than the touch screen and as far as I know all the features are the same. I have one and love it. No lag whatsoever
Customer service has been great. I have a variety of lights hooked up and a compressor.
The app is really basic but I haven't had any issues with it.

I was thinking of mounting the touchscreen in that same location. Not sure if the mounting bracket is the same. Is that way holding up for you or did you reinforce the bracket from underneath at all?

I don't have any knowledge of how the touchscreen bracket is mounted or what type of bracket it uses.
As far as the location goes it hold up great for me and have no issues for the 18 months of regular use. Nice and sturdy

I definitely think the sPod touchscreen is worth it. I just expanded and now I'm running two sPods - a sourceSE under the hood and a bantam in the rear, mounted in the slot where the jack is located.

The touchscreen has the ability to show amp draw (depending on the firmware version), add in custom text, images/icons, etc. on a switch and swipe between different sPods units if you're running multiple ones.

That being said, I currently have my touchscreen in for RMA, as I have had issues with my touchscreens responsiveness. There's a calibration button on the back to try to alleviate when this does happen. They were very helpful when I started connecting the two sPod units together, and even RMA'd my touchscreen past the warranty date.

I am getting ready to mount my sPOD HD in the same spot as yours. How did you mount it in that cubby? I have some ideas but I'm curious about how you mounted your sPOD.

I used the supplied mounting plate. I drilled two holes in the bottom of the cubby then ran two bolts through it with washers on each side and attached with nyloc nuts.

I offset mine to the left (driver's side) to give access to the screws that tighten the corner of the bracket so that I could loosen one side to facilitate access.
This is admittedly a challenging way to mount the bracket. In retrospect, I'd only mount it to the cubby with one bolt so it could pivot and allow for better access to the back of the SPOD and the mounting bracket, Mounting it slightly forward of the front of the cubby also helps with this.

Having it a bit forward also helps so you can angle it back slightly for better visibility

I completed my install of the sPOD HD panel. I used the universal mount that came with it. I drilled the holes for the mount and power cable on the top of the cubby instead of the bottom so if I ever remove it there aren’t holes in the cubby that would allow small items to fall through. I used washers on both the underside and topside along with a star locking washer under the nut. Those went through the elongated mounting holes of the mounting plate so I can pull the panel forward a little to gain access behind it. The panel actually slides about an inch forward using elongated (slot) holes. The picture of the large hole with the grommet is there to run the cable through. I have access to the rear of the HD panel and can unplug the cable if necessary. Turned out great and happy with the install process.

Other option is to upgrade the stereo, and for $75 extra you can get the unit that displays it on the screen. Costs more, yes, but if you're at all into music its a necessary upgrade anyway. You can have 5 separate parameters out of something like 20 that it gives you. Only thing i wish it had was pitch/roll sensors as well as oil temp.

I have a pioneer 8400NEX with the maestro device. How does the sPod interface with an aftermarket radio? The video in the link doesn't illustrate this. Is it through CarPlay?

I was torn between the sPOD and Switch Pros. Quite frankly there was too little information available on what everyone thought and it seemed as if it was really personal choice.....Toyota - Ford - Chevy, you know what I mean. One of the deciding factors for the sPOD was that it could use alternative switches like the AOB ones. In fact, I have already installed 4 of them with the 5th one to go where the Party Mode switch used to be in the early 5th gens. I like pushing a button but like high tech too. Probably [MENTION=98117]comtn4x4[/MENTION] is right, shoulda went with the HD instead.

I really like the route you took. I'm a big fan of keeping things looking stock while still adding functionality.

I’m not sure this person understands what the Spod does, he’s showing us an example of the Maestro unit connected to a head unit. Maybe he’s thinking of a Scangauge?
