Installed sprint booster in new to me 2021 4 Runner limited and what a difference.

Side note/question. As I was installing the sprint boosted touched the 2 metal pipes that are coming from engine bay above the throttle pedal and going behind the center console and burn my hand, is that normal for these pipes to get so hot? Was running A/C not heat. Surprised about that googled around but can not find anything related.

yes its pretty stupid for these to not be insulated.. i complained to toyota corporate and nothing... i can definitely feel the heat from the pipes radiating to my footwell. It's not the emergency heater because that requires certian conditions to kick on

OK, so it nothing I should be worried about. Do you know what these pipes are?
Could I cover them with the rubber insulation that is sold at Home Depot for hot water pipes. Should be no ill effect?

im sure someone can answer better but i left mine uncovered just in case of moisture or condensation which could cause the metal to rust.. asusming its a rust-prone metal.

Couple years ago the back of my hand found out the hard way that those pipes are boiling hot. Pipe insulation fixed that yeah. Protects the module and wiring there too. I highly recommend…

I just got a Sprint Booster for my '17 4Runner.

I wanted to install the switch to the right of the steering wheel where the "Party Mode" button is on the older 4Runners.

I can pop out the panel on the left side of the steering wheel pretty easy, but when I try to pop out part to the right of the steering wheel, one clip comes out, then it's stuck.

Is there a trick to getting the right side out?

I've tried searching and only found people showing how to get the left side out.

I was going to post an update, and saw your reply.

Here's some pictures.

First:

The top circled part is where I want to put the switch. The red oval is around the area I am trying to separate.

Second:

The red oval is around the part where I got the clip open on the left, but the right is not budging.

Third:

At the bottom of this section of panel, there was a small square (circled). I popped it out with a knife tip and there is a bolt.

When I have time this afternoon, I will remove the bolt and try again.

Got it!

After the bolt under the square cover, the panel surrounding the AC knob needed to be pulled off.

Once it was off, the bottom half came off, then the top half.

I used my Dremel to cut away just enough material for the cable to go between.

You aren't the only one. I unplugged the button controller and left the unit under the dash pre set.

No, you don't have to install the controller. [MENTION=651630]cbaty08[/MENTION] If you don't, the unit is pre-set to the higher setting automatically. Now, there are benefits to have the controller hooked up. They are the valet and pedal lock features. Valet mode lets you set a certain rpm, say 3,500 and the truck will not go over that RPM. Saves people from joy riding that may have you car when it's at the shop, etc. Pedal lock lets you lock out the gas pedal. Say someone got your keys or tried to steal the truck. If they get it started, the pedal is fully disabled and they can't go anywhere! I had a customer who was pilot with a 16 yr old daughter... Everytime he went out of town, she would find the keys (after he hid them) and take the truck out with her friends. This happened multiple times. He bought the booster so this couldn't happen anymore. That's not really the reason to buy one, but it definitely gives much more security. I use it if I'm in a hotel or amd parked at an airport for peace of mind.

Sprint Booster for t4r members and am offering a 5 year warranty on it. With any electronic item, sometimes things can happen, and you're covered.

Again, you don't have to plug it in if you don't want to. You can set it and forget it, and leave it in the glove box if you ever want to adjust later, but once you set it, you don't really need to change.

Install on my 18 4Runner was a piece of cake
As you can see from picture I used a blank plate and drilled a hole for Cable to fit, very clean
Not sure why 10 min Waite on 4Runner with door open, but I followed instructions
System works great and noticeable throttle response improvement
Stated with green 5 tried 9 then switched to red 9��
That’s pretty much where it will stay
One install tip, I used a skinny dowl to feed controller wire
I’ll give the system a 5stars
Does what it says it will do

Are there any long term users of the Sprint Booster that have had any isuues? I'm thinking about switching.

One of the first mods I purchased and used was the Pedal Commander back when I bought my 2017 4Runner. I really loved the improved throttle response and that I was able to change the setting on the fly. I used that for about 2 years I think without any issues until the truck threw a code. I dont remember the exact code it threw, but I cleared it and uninstalled the PC. Till this day the truck has never threw a code again. But I really do miss the throttle response and was thinking of reinstalling the PC now after adding a few more mods to the truck which added more weight. But also thinking that I should not, since I dont know if the PC was what caused the code. I do like the features of the SB especially being able to disconnect it after setting it up.

How do you set the pedal lock feature?

i bought mine from Jason ages ago when we were both young men....

Now we aint so young anymore but the SB hasn't changed and still works like a charm.

Never had a code thrown, never had any issues for that matter.

You just press and hold the silver button on the controller, then you can add a 3 digit pin. If anyone gets the truck started, and they try to press the has pedal, nothing will happen. Great security feature if your car is at airport for a week, you’re in a shady area, or like my one customer that was a pilot - when he would go away his 16 yr old daughter would find the keys (even after he hid them) and take her friends out. Not anymore.
