Squeaking noise solved on my 2011 Trail Edition

For the past year, I've had to listen to this squeaking sound coming from the dash area near the A-Pillar. It sounded like 2 pieces of metal rubbing together mixed in with finger nails on the chalk board. Needless to say it was damn annoying while driving. My 15K mile service was due and I ended up taking it to a local dealership. When the service tech came out to ask me about it, we took a ride so he could see 1st hand what I was talking about.
Fast forward about 5 hours later, and 4 service technicians standing around my in the shop bay with a dumb look on their faces staring at the left front of my TE. I asked if they found out what it was, and one of the guys says it was a rubber splash guard behind the left front wheel, just above the frame.
Needless to say, the $5 part created a hell of a noise when driving. If this sounds familiar on your 4R, check it out.

Weird something like that would cause such a annoying horrid noise. Glad they found it. I thought I was starting to read another dealer horror story.
 
A few of us have posted about this. I found it was the fastener on mine so I put a dab of bike lube. Worked for a season, now it's back.
 
Had this issue with the driver and passenger side skirts. I fixed it by pulling the fastener and then sticking it through a square of double sided foam tape. The stickiness isn't really needed as it's the thick padding of the foam tape that prevents the fastener from loosely sliding around in it's mounting hole causing the dust to squeak.

Any pics of this part and exact location for other that have the issue down the road? Is it just the plastic clips?
 
The one on the right is the loud one on mine.

Ironic, I had not read about this issue on the forum but just fixed mine yesterday. It really makes for an annoying and irritating sound. Mine has been happening the last month or so. I had not looked for the culprit beyond opening the hood and seeing if something was loose. I could tell it was from that left wheel well area. I removed both of those pins circled in 1000MPH's picture and replaced them with a heavy cable tie run through a steel washer. Problem solved, permanently. I am going to do the right side before it starts over there :flamethrwoer2:
 
You guys just made my year. Seriously. I have been trying to track down this combination of ticking, knocking, tapping and squeaking for a year now. I thought for sure it was coming from the A-pillar or the dash and was some kind of wiring harness or something. I am so glad the dealer didn't hear the noise when I complained, they probably would have ripped the headliner off and all that and it would have never been the same.

I pulled those terribly designed little clasps out last night and replaced them with zip ties. I have nary a sound now where I used to feel like I was going nuts.

I have restored faith in my trusty 4R.

I still can't believe that those little plastic bits in the wheel well were what I have been hearing way up in the cabin for over a year.

First post on this forum and I have been having the same squeaking issue on the driver side of my 2014 trail edition. Just went outside and looked at those pins for the first time. At first touch of the dust guard and moving those pins the noise that I have been hearing for months now has been duplicated. Cant wait to replace with something different and drive in peace with the radio off in the morning.
 
Really hopes this solves the noise I've been hearing the past two weeks. Just surprises me that something that small can create such a noise you can hear while driving.
 
Can someone help me out really quick. How do you remove these clips without breaking them off, or is this impossible?
