Squeaking noise solved on my 2011 Trail Edition

On the top front one I was able to press the tab in on the backside while prying the clip out. It was a PITA but it came out. I then did the second one the same way. I didn't break either tab on the backside, but can see how one would break.

Alright, so I pulled out the top pins on the front and back piece, put so double stick tape in there and replaced with new pins. Snug as a rug. But unfortunately I'm still getting a squeak noise. Can't tell what it is. Took it to dealer and they thought it might be front skid plate. I ran over a cone in the road and I guess it put a dent in the skid and they say it's rubbing. I don't buy that but I'm at a loss. It's definitely coming from front and seems like drivers side.

Also might be worth checking the rubber stoppers that holds the hood when closed. I had a similar problem, and thought it was my Uca. But, I found the rubber stopper on the left side was missing, and made a metallic squeak noise from the hood shifting over every bump that resonated though the whole car.

I've been having a similar noise intermittently for a while now. I took a piece of bicycle inner tube and cut little rubber washers out of it. I installed those between the splash guard and the inner fender and it seems to have eliminated the noise.

The one on the right is the loud one on mine.

I borrowed your picture and added a little more detail.

The retaining clips are reusable so don't try and force them out.
Start on the left, reach around the back and squeeze the protruding sides of the clip, then pull it out with your free hand. The clip on the right is a little harder to reach, but is accessible.

I cleaned the area, then applied two small strips of foam weather stripping...

10 minute fix.

Mine sounds like it's coming from the back, will check all this out tomorrow.. Been driving me crazy. Doesn't do it on big bumps, just gravel roads and rougher paved roads.. So hoping this is the issue and I can fix it.. May post a recording..

I love this forum. For last last year or so I've been trying to figure out why my 4runner was squeaking to the point I gave up trying. What are you guys using to permanently keep those clip from rattling?

Yep.
Still working 5+ years later. You can barely see it in this pic of my blown shock.

I used a piece of fuel line, cut it in to 1/8" rings, and pushed it on to the back of the fastener to take up the slop. Problem solved. I keep a bunch of them in my tool pouch around a small bundle of tie wraps.

I initially used a piece of pipe cleaner wrapped around the fastener, but the service techs removed them. And it was pretty ghetto looking.

LIFESAVERS!!! This squeak drove me nuts!

Small washer insulators cut from double sided foam 3M adhesive tape did the trick. Stuck on the frame so the guard can be removed.

once again this forum saves the day - had been trying to pinpoint this for about a year and thought leaves or a twig had wedged below the windshield area; never thought it'd be in wheel well :drum:

I had the same ticking and the occasional creaking noise what seemed to be coming from the passenger side A pillar. Did a search and found a few treads here with possible fixes. I just turned one of the plastic fasteners that hold the cover on the frame. So far no more annoying ticking/rattle. I never would have guessed that was where the noise was coming from as well.

The squeak on mine seems to be coming from the top of the windshield on the driver's side, but if I press on the windshield, it doesn't change anything. I'm losing my ****ing mind.

Thanks for this thread. Sure enough the clips on this piece on mine were very loose and probably the cause of my one rattle. Glad I finally got around to searching for this. Gotta go do this.
