SS 1.2 with 265/75R16

Hey guys, I'm researching lifts (I've read a ton) and I'm pretty well aware of the options out there, but I'm having a hard time deciding what to go with. I love the idea of the sonoran steel 1.2, but I'm concerned that it will look silly with my Cooper Discoverer AT3s in 265/75R16. I see that 285s are a popular match for this lift, but since my truck is a DD/road-tripper as well, I really don't want the extra weight and rolling resistance of the 285s.

Any opinions on whether 265s will still look good with the 1.2 kit? The pics on the SS website don't tell me tire size, and I'm not experienced enough to be able to tell 285s vs 265s by sight.

If you're running 265/75/R16 with the 1.2 kit and could post a pic or link your build thread, I'd be much obliged.

Also, I've searched and haven't found satisfactory answers on the threads that addressed this exact topic.

If you run an aggressive all terrain tire they look fine. I ran that setup for awhile and it looked fine. My buddy runs 2" body lift on top of the 3" lift on those tires and it still looks fine.

Here are some non aggressive tires and still looks fine.

I drove mine for about 2 years with the SS1.2 and 265/75/R16 tires. I also had a 1.5" body lift. I thought it looked fine.

The 285s look better to my eye, but 265s look and work just fine. The upside of 265s is you don't have to re-gear and your power and gas mileage will be better than with 285s.

The only problem I have with the SS 1.2 lift is that I gained about 5" in the back, which is much more than I wanted. This rear lift is really designed for trucks with an aftermarket rear bumper or skids. Even when fully loaded with camping gear (like in the picture below) I still have more rear lift than I'd like. This can lead to the rear end moving quite a bit sideways relative to the axle during compression since the trackbar is at a fairly steep angle. Otherwise I've been completely happy with the SS lift and 265/75s.

Agreed. I always use the wife test. I put bigger tires, have her drive it and say hows if feel? She says its the same. Exactly. LOL

Depends on your ratio. I have 4.10 gears on my 98 5speed with locker. Makes me hesitant to go 33s.

When I first bought the truck it came with 285s. Honestly I don't feel a difference when I went to 265s.

wow, thanks for all the responses, guys! This forum is straight-up awesome and you're the reason why!

Still got some thinking to do. I love the functionality of the LC coils (as shown above and in other posts), but on pavement the back shows just a bit more wheel well than I'd like. I'll be stock in the rear without extra weight for a while, so I may go with the 7.2 for the 890s instead. Decisions, decisions...
