SSO (and other companies) lead times normal?

I was surprised to see some lead times. I orders rock sliders from Shrockworks, and the time was 6-8 weeks I think. Got an email 4 weeks after placing my order saying they were ready. Nice surprise. They were kind enough to hold them for a week or so since I had a planned trip to the Houston area coming up. next time I will have them shipped (Houston driving can sometimes be a nightmare).

These lead times were not as bad as where I had to wait a year one time for something I ordered - so 6 months I could probably deal with.

On 5/24/19, I ordered Sliders, Slimline Bumper & Stage 2 High Clearance from SSO - full price. They had big sales on Memorial day and July 4th. On July 5th, I got an email saying my order was going to be delayed due to a large volume of orders. Up until this point, there had be zero movement on my order. So I emailed SSO and said that if my order was going to be delayed by their sales then I wanted the sale prices. I also mentioned that I had a trip up the WABDR scheduled for Aug 8-11 and I was going to be severely disappointed if these items did not make it to me by then.

And then, like magic, there was movement on my orders. They never responded to my actual email asking for the sale price. Sliders arrived last Monday. Bumper went to powdercoat last week. On this coming Wednesday, we will be at 14 weeks on the bumper. I imagine I won't have it in my hands until the middle of next week, which will be too late for me to get it on the truck before I leave for the WABDR.

When I ordered my roof rack from SSO last summer, things went much more smoothly. I've got to say I've been disappointed this time around.

same experience, I think they missed the quote time they gave me by a week or so for my bumper and wings. Not too big of a deal, they did respond when I pestered them, unlike some of the other companies here where they take your money and literally disappear with it for months on end, with no communications.

Their estimated lead time for the bumper was 10-12 weeks. I'm looking at 15 weeks at the moment.

You need to remember a few things:

1) The lead time they give you is an ESTIMATE and not set in stone.
2) The progress indication sheet you look at is not always accurate or up to date.
3) You should not look at their progress sheet and assume you know the timetable for certain parts of the project to be completed.
3) It will take longer for your items to get to you when they have to spend their time answering questions from people asking where their items are 6 weeks into a 12 week wait.

Oh I got that its not set in stone. Its like tracking a UPS package, if it says its in Biloxi, MS for several weeks with no apparent movement, you're going to start to wonder what happened. Now, UPS may know that they are rerouting your package on a private jet to ensure it gets to you on time but that doesnt change your concern that the delay in Biloxi seems abnormal. The progress sheet being inaccurate or not up to date is definitely an area to improve upon if that's the case as that helps people track and further set expectations of their product. This stuff, these lead times are just something I am still learning about. It is by no means a reflection on SSO or their products. I love the quality look of their product. I just didnt realize they were a smaller operation and therefore didnt consider the impact of large orders or other factors that could slow things.

The tracker stays on material ordered for a long time, my bumper was on that stage for probably 6-8 weeks. Then the last two it goes through once it is in.

The material all comes in pre cut from a CNC machine, so very minimal cutting is required at the shop, it’s more fabrication/welding that is done.

Hey guys, I am new to this game and need some guidance. I ordered some rock sliders (glorified side steps LOL) from SSO over a month and a half ago and still no sign of them or any progress towards completion.

These guys seem to be one of the big names in the Toyota Off-road scene and I'm really surprised things are taking this long to make and ship. In the days of Amazon Prime, online grocery shopping and other time saving services I am at a loss when a company says MONTHS for delivery. :help:

Is this normal? Should I expect that everything made of metal is going to take an eternity or is it just an issue with certain companies?

FYI: My slimline bumper was estimated 10-12 weeks, it took 13. Actual build of the bumper took 3-5 days at the very end.

I too was anxious to see progress, and the tracker might make it even worse... But...its totally worth the wait. Their welds are awesome, the powdercoat was thick and even, and the packaging was completely top notch. Even the shipping took only two days.

I ordered a SSO Bumper on July 9th. I received a email showing that the material had been laser cut, bent, and received on July 23rd. I am just waiting on fabrication now. Quality vs Speed take your pick....

Victory Full Rack took 2 weeks from order to delivery. Shrockworks sliders took 1 month.

I just got my shipping notification for my SSO bumper. Should be here Tuesday - 14 weeks, 6 days from order placed to delivery.
