Stand Alone Awning

Been looking all over for a roof awning that does not require poles/tie downs. Did google searches, looked at all different posts here but the only one I can find is the Hannibal Awning (2.4m Hannibal Awning - Hannibal Safari USA Store). At close to $1k I dont know if I can justify it, have any of you guys seen one similar or is this my only option?

My guess would be no one really makes them because stability issues in wind and rain. Making a awning that is strong enough to withstand it would cost a lot to make, be expensive to the buyer, so sales would be low and cost prehibative.

Few reasons: 4 Dogs while hunting getting caught up on poles (seen this happen a lot) when they are tied up at the car, not having to worry about what type of ground youre on/not having to bring sandbags tailgating at games, being able to pull up to picnic table or whatever and just open the awning for instant shade without having to worry about where the poles/tie downs go.

The $300 option is what Im probably going to get, just wanted to see if there was a similar option to the Hannibal for $300-400

I go a completely different route than a vehicle attached awning. I have had them in the past and they, IMO, are way too limiting for the reasons you post and more.
I have found over the years that "where your vehicle is" is not always the best place for an awning. It could be 10 feet away or a 100 feet away or even right beside your 4Runner but having a roof mounted one takes all the options away except the one right beside the vehicle. I usually just strap a 10X10 EZ Awning on the rack. I can set it up in seconds (timed it - out of the bag to full setup is less than 30 seconds) and anywhere I want it. In your case out of the reach of the dog's leash. I can use it for other occasions too, like at a beach that does not allow vehicles. Cheap, easy and versatile. The biggest reason? I can put it on either side of the 4Runner depending on where the sun is lol, including the back. My .02

Agree with others. Doesn't look like this would bolt up to the factory roof rails either, so you are looking at another $600 to $1000 for a GOBI/Baja Rack. $2,000 buys a lot of other options. Here in Oklahoma, I'd see the wind damaging that thing.

As sexy as the idea of a vehicle-mounted, rapidly deployable awning is for a piece of overlanding kit, I have to agree with 1engineer. Seems there are cheaper, more flexible options. If the poles or guys are a really big issue, perhaps you could simply tie a tarp from the vehicle to some trees, or between trees if available. Sexy? No. Functional, yes.

White reflects heat. Easy to set up. And it's sturdy. Mine had withstood rain, wind and snow. Also it's easy to set up. You can secure it with tent stakes, rope, straps, sand bags, or whatever.

I hang up Christmas lights around the tent that run off of the power plug in the back of the 4runner. Provides light to play cards for super plush car camping.
