I've been thinking about doing this for ~2 years now, but finally started from scratch a couple weekends ago putting together a blog to write about trips, truck mods, and gear.

My girlfriend suggested doing this since I run my mouth about this stuff constantly that I should channel that into something that people (besides her) may be interested to read and potentially inspire someone to get off the couch and go do something outside.

I've just started to learn how to customize the blog template, and this is the first non-business writing I've done since Freshman Lit class in college, so it's not much, but figured you guys might want to check it out (it is at least as good as the latest "can I fit 285's" thread you were going to click anyways). Only 4 posts so far, but I have a ton of "backlog" trips, "build posts", and gear posts to keep me busy for a long time.

Appreciate any feedback, comments, or suggestions on topics you might want me to cover. Again, nothing here for personal gain; just a pet-project blog I am doing in my spare time.

Love that pic of the DuraTracs in the snow.. now I'm undecided on tires again. Any experiences on icy roads?
 
:bigok: F A N T A S T I C! Great idea and a very valid preface you made " There are plenty of "Overland" and "Expedition" blogs out there with inspiring accounts of multi-month (or year) global adventures, this ain't one of them.

4FUNR is all about scratching the "overlanding" itch one weekend, and one truck mod at a time".

I have seen most of your activity over at the overland portal.... with that being said I see your reason for creating this blog! Hopefully our paths will cross one day as I seem to be on a similar track

"NOT TO JACK THE THREAD" (soon to be a street term for a figure of speech)

But yes, I have experienced ice with my duratrac's. In fact I had my duratrac's studded. With that being said they still didn't perform as well as the DMV-1 Bilzzaks (not studded) I had the winter before. Purely down to the nature of the compound of the blizzak tire; its alot softer.

Your SR5 and a pair of blizzaks will keep you perfectly safe traveling in the winter, in Colorado. Saying that is making me homesick :cry:

They've done fine on icy roads, however I use an abundance of caution in those conditions so I was not trying to find the limits of traction in the tires.
 
Yeah, I plan to get a separate set of wheels with Blizzaks but I figured I might as well find a well rounded tire (no pun intended) for regular use in case I run into unexpected weather on the edge of the seasons. Sorry to go O/T - but thanks for the input. :cheers: (<- no, it's not too early)

Thanks for the feedback from you and everyone else. I figure if I can figure out ways to do this stuff working a pretty intense job and living smack in the middle of Washington DC the blog can inspire some other folks to give it a shot.
 
I drove through many icy and packed snow covered roads in Quebec last winter and Duratracs were fine. Got few interesting moments on hills and sharp turns and started really respect my tires - no slippings, TRAC/VSC never kicked in. But I careful on ice, it's always tempting to explore limits of the traction, but it sucks to spend a night in a ditch waiting for a tow truck : )
 
Dude.. you need a "Huckleberry" column... my wife has been cracking up at the pictures of him... Looks like he's having a blast tagging along.

When you post a new entry, you could have the "huckleberry bonus commentary"; you know.. reviews on the view from his water bowl; memorable fire hydrants :) Details on the bloopers that you forgot to write about :hatsoff:
