Are the starter and solenoid separate pieces on a 96 4runner?

Sometimes, it will just click. Other times, it cranks once, weakly, and then stops. I can still get it to start if I'm persistant

In my opinion, just replace the whole thing. you only want to remove the starter as little as possible on a v6. just did it two days ago, little tight. I know the starters themselves are reliable, but after 100k miles or so, why not replace the whole thing?
It's all personal preference and budget! IMO!
Are the contacts easy to buy, or do you have to order them?
Call up your local Toyota dealership and see what they got, all 3 were in stock last time I got them....
