Starter replacement any tips?

Hows it going y’all. I am curious to see if anyone has any tips on making it easier to wiggle out the starter. I have a ‘00 SR5 auto trans and its 2WD so it seems a little easier with no CVs getting in the way but it still seems pretty crammed in there. I have seen a couple people suggesting to drop the sway bar, what do you guys recommend? Thanks yall

2WD? It drops right out the bottom. No problems. Access the bolts from the wheel well or below, whichever works for you.

If you have a ratcheting box-end wrench set, a few swivels/extensions/sockets you'll have no trouble.

Just make sure to disconnect the battery first...

That’s what i was thinking since there seems to be enough space to pull it out through the lower control arm but i wasn’t sure. i just got the starter unbolted in 5 mins, probably the easiest time i’ve had taking out a starter. thanks man

The good news is that once the wires and bolts are off you can't really hurt it. That thing is dense, sturdy and heavy. I ended up rebuilding mine right there in the engine bay through the wheel well (removing the passenger's side tire makes this a lot easier) but I've got the model/combo that makes it an absolute pain to get it out. You should not have nearly as much trouble.

Don't replace the Denso Starter, just replace the solenoid contacts if you can get away with that.

I second just doing the contacts. I had to do mine in the engine bay and it was a huge pain in the ass, but you shouldn't have to worry about that.

Like others already stated, your starter probably just needs new contacts and a plunger. Amazon.com: Victory Lap ND-36SOL Solenoid Repair Kit: Automotive


Like Charlie said above, you can easily drop the starter out below. The video below will help you with the contacts and plunger replacement.
