Starting Issues 2000 Limited 2WD

Hey Guys,

The other day I was taken by surprise when I stuck the key in the ignition rotated it and there was nothing! There was no warning from previous starts(i.e., no slow rotation during start, solenoid clicking noise, etc.). So, I took the key out a couple of times, turned it and still got nothing. Anyways, I did the same a third time and it cranked right up no problem. I chalked it up to just old car gremlins and the problem went away for a couple of weeks. Lately, I had more or less the exact same issue a couple of times. During lunch today I had a starting issue, but this time i could hear the slow buzz/clicking sound of a bad solenoid coming from the right side of the truck (think old Fords and Chevys). Anyway, the truck did start eventually.

So, what do you think? Bad starter contacts or something entirely different? Why on previous attempts would there be absolutely no hint of a start occuring (possible relay problem)?

Relay.

Pop your hood, and take the fuse box conver off. You'll see the starter relay. Swap that one with another under the hood, JUST TEMPERAIRLY, and see if that makes any difference. If it does fixes the problem, drive to the auto parts store and buy a new relay, and put it where the one you took out was, or just swap them back into the orginal positions.

Thanks Doc. Here's another symptom: When the vehicle doesn't start or the appearance of no system power (car-wide) the radio resets (turns itself off and the radio presets are wiped).

What do you think?

I have had that happen to me before. When I was having the issue I checked the connectors to my battery and one of them was slightly loose. That may be the issue.
