Steering rack poly bushing remove and reuse?

agree.....but why reuse.
when your rack arrives...how much of a hurry you gonna be in to install ? Rack arrives...you go to remove and get old bushings...oh bushing is worn/shot...well order new...go get some local cheap....
or looks good...but why do I still have some vibration wobble with this new rack installed...the bushings only looked a little worn.
Me...im tired of doing things twice unless I have too.( breakdowns etc)
Id just be ready with new ones

They will come right out (both old poly and new rubber). I had poly bushings on my rack for ~1 year before I got a leak and bought a new (OEM!) rack.

yes, of course they can be re-used, but as you said: why?
the kit is cheap enough. just buy a new kit and keep the old bushings as spares or something. why spend all of that money to put used bushings in them, even if they are poly.
poly bushings wear as well. they arent this magical bushing that will last you forever. i could see if it was like 6 months to a year, but 7 years is a long time.

That's what I did. The stock OEM bushings when new are quite good. I tossed out my poly bushings with the old rack and kept the stock bushings and they are nice and snug.
If I remember right it only comes with one of the steering rack bushing so you'll have to order the other one.
The OEM rack comes with the two bushings installed, but it doesn't come with the "Gear Assembly Insulator" 45517-35010 which is the third part in at least the energy suspension kit. It's the one that wraps around the rack and is held in by a bracket.

so, its not a new rack? youre replacing a used rack with another used rack?

Sounds crazy? Let me explain:
With so many miles, and with a very good eng and trans, my plan is to restore and then retire it as my second car. That $600 for a new oem rack will instead go for almost all the parts necessary for the restore not including the paint job.
The replacement used rack is oil tight with only 120k miles on it so it should last longer than the future miles I will ever put on it.

im having trouble following your story here.
your 3rd gen has a lot of miles (a lot do), but you have a good engine and trans. what are you restoring? youre in OC so rust isnt a likley issue? i see you mention a paint job, those arent cheap okay i get that, but you bought a used part off ebay with a fair amount of miles on it.
im sure they 'guaranteed' it worked or that its 'leak free'. even if it comes with something like a 30 day warranty, they still arent going to want to give it to you. especially if you didnt have the rack installed by a certified master mechanic (ask me how i know).
the racks are 500 new and include the inner rod ends. that is more important than a paint job IMO. if you cant drive your car, you cant show off your new paint.
im assuming youve already bought it/in your possession. best of luck.

Actually, I do have a rust problem around the front windshield that I must fix.
Regarding the rack, I plan to rebuild my leaky original rack and either keep it or sell it. The reason I bought second used rack was that if I had a problem rebuilding my leaky rack I would be stranded with no transportation and no available public transportation. A rental car would cost more than used replacement rack. Was planning on painting it myself. Bottom line is that it is not financially wise for me to spend thousands to restore a car that is only worth $2-3k.
