Has the needle bearing been discussed here before (sorry, I didn't make through all 26 pages)?

Looks like there's a lot of play where the CV connects to the diff that could cause the vibration. This thread has a link to a bushing that can be installed to fix the problem.

It sounds like the symptoms are different: "It depends on the speed. At 15 to 20 mph the vibration can be felt in the floor board and the steering wheel. It's gotten to the point that it feels almost identical to going over rumble strips on the highway. It's actually vibrating enough to create sound at 15 to 20 mph, sounds like a low growl coming from the drivers side of the front differential. At 50 to 60 mph the vibration comes through the steering wheel, and if you know what you're "feeling for" you can feel it in the floor board and seat a bit as well."

I wouldn't touch Tesla, hell no. Highlander could work but I just don't see myself driving it.

My "vibration" came back but a balance cured it. Must've tossed a weight.

I do get some vibration even with really well balanced tires but I'm 99.9% sure it's because of the more aggressive tread my ST MAXX's have. If I went back to normal tires, had them balanced well, and a great alignment, I'm positive there would be no issues.

I've come to learn that Toyota will balance the Axles BEFORE they install them on the rigs.

They have been packed with grease at the factory and at times the grease can settle or dry slightly causing the vibration.

A die-hard 4R friend of mine has similar issues and recommends repacking all the CV's to full. It should get rid of it.

2018 off road w/KDSS 7,700 miles

Had absolutely no vibration when new, stock set up nothing smooth, leveled it with spacers above the struts still smooth, now have Dobinson's Long reach struts with heavy springs, upper control arms w/ball joints, long reach shocks and heavy coils in rear.
still smooth no vibration.

I have a very minor if not non existent vibration. When I get muddy it get's much more pronounced. 65+ it's the worst at 70 mph. Wash the mud off and it definitely improves/stops.

So the consensus is the stock Dunlop AT20 and BFG KO2 are most prone to vibrations.

You got mud in your tire.
Just thought it was a real 4x4 thing. had the wobble on the 76 blazer,94 4runner and the 13 trail. It happens from time to time, then as mysterious as it started it stops. Bad stabilizer on the blazer would make a serious wobble almost bounce. but with 4 runners, never that bad and not often enough for me to raise concern. check tire pressure, wear everything seems fine.

Thought I was going nuts

Just picked up my 2018 4Runner TRD Offroad Premium and noticed this as soon as I got over 50mph.

Great, back to the dealer it goes I guess.

Well I've been researching new 4runner and have decided to get it, but this steering wheel vibration may scare me away...I absolutely cannot stand vibrating steering wheel in a car, let alone in a new $40k car. And for sure I don't want to deal with fixing it right out the door.

How prevalent is this issue?

ON a stock vehicle, probably not that common. However, if you upgrade your tires, or mess with your suspension, it becomes pretty common.

Me and my buddy both got vibration issues when we upgraded to 285 kO2s on stock rims. My buddy got his solved by roadforce balance after 2 tries....

Mine didn't resolve itself until after I mounted my old, unbalanceable tires on new wider rims.....go figure right.

Basically, the point is, there are a lot of factors that come into play, and diagnosing the problem is a PITA.

he's right. i've also noticed that it is more prevalent with higher psi's (at least in my case)

I had no steering vibration on my stock 2018 TRD OR. An hour after the 10K service (including tire rotation), I noticed a wicked vibration and took it back and had the tires rebalanced. Since then I've noticed the vibration only on a specific stretch of highway near the dealership, which happens to be the same stretch of highway I took the test drive on.

Currently have Dobinson's 1" lift front and rear (still on stock tires until I get the alignment straightened out) with no vibration except that one stretch of highway.

I didn't read every single response, and I've had no shimmy with my 2007, and never did with my 2000, but I hope you all who suffer have also checked the driveshaft, that is to the extent you can. The problem was irritating on Tundra's for years, and went undiagnosed 'cause good people kept chasing tire/wheel/alignment, suspension parts, etc, when all along it was just the driveshaft yoke. Also affects Tacoma & various 4runners. I guess, if you think longterm, its going to affect many, but may not be annoying. Lube goes away, parts get worn

I had the vibration on my 2019 TRD OR with TRD wheels and Nitto Tires. It only happened when the tires are cold. I read somewhere on here to just fill it up with more air. I had 32psi on all four tires and I filled it up to 35psi. Drove it early morning when it was cold to my surprise NO MORE VIBRATIONS.

My 2015 SR5 picked up what I assume is a typical wobble right around 55-60 mph after a lift and new tires.

Now seemingly after a year the vibration has completely disappeared. No changes to alignment or components but just a few tire rotations and some standard tire wear. :loco:

I'll be honest reading this thread had me more than a little concerned and I'm sure now that I'm going to be hyper aware of any steering vibration. My '18 SR5 has a little over 1500 miles on the clock, no mods..just did a 450-mile round trip this weekend at speeds between 55 and 90..mostly 80 on stock Dunlops, zero vibration issues. Getting ready to do a 1200 mile round trip in the next week..will report back.

Wait guys I take that back Mr. Shimmy came back again this morning but went away after driving it for 10 mins.
